I have seen the ESL tournament, loved the matches of Mana vs Vendicare and they were dynamic, fast paced, surprising, thrilling, featuring non-stop battles and the whole audience was amazed and barely anyone could understand wtf is going on but we all loved it. I hope we will see more of magnificent quarrels like that, so I am posting this set of suggestions for the developers:
Official website dedicated to DoW3, sharing up-to-date information about starts, mechanics, guides (user-made and comment-able), replays, tournament dates and highlights
because there is none and even if some fan creates it, it won't get a huge audience because nobody knows about it and the quality will be very hard to maintain high due to infrastructure not being developed. Multiple languages should be supported (because people all over the world play this game and not everyone speaks English)
(right now we have only ESL website and for this weekend's tournament only 17 players registered atm https://play.eslgaming.com/dawnofwar/europe/dow3/open/1on1-it-is-war-cup-2-europe/ this game needs much more to last)
DoW3 Wiki , focused on mechanics and units, describing them all in numbers (Path of Exile has it's own wiki as the main source of all information and every player goes there, even on stream which helps new players learn the game and shows them the way);
Tournaments being hosted and casted by the developers themselves, so all players can watch top players match each other live via livestreams and hear the commentary analysis from people who made the game and know how what works;
Official youtube DoW3 account, sharing the replays of tournaments and matches being played by the best players (if they allow it) and highlights (downloading replays manually to watch them is painful and youtube/twitch help new players learn the game before they check the reviews);
Spectate mode for players to watch matches being played, with the ability to see the top-ranking players sparring each other, to see their gameplay and be inspired, entertained and taught;
APM counter being all the time displayed in the game in the player interface (so everyone sees it can has it shown and can compare streamers to each other or to self);
Disable the mechanic of AoE abilities doing less damage to each unit the more units get hit (because it's just disgusting and some have that);
More matchmaking preferences option, including Visible Map (no map fog) and Pause :
9a. Option for open/visible-map mode in multiplayer (Warhammer franchise comes from table-top games, where similarly to board games all players know what is going on all the time, while in the digital game we have the map fog that hides the enemy actions and the player has no idea what's going and gets surprised by the great enemy decision being the doombringer);
9b. Option for Pause to be used anytime in the match (just like in the example above, players can just wait and think, while in the digital game the thoughts have to be dynamic and barely anyone is able to think so quickly) though this would of course allow players to abuse it to distract the enemy,
above options acceptable/denyable in the matchmaking preferences (so players tick if they want these options available in the match and get matched to players with the same match preferences)
Of course, even if all these are implemented and working, in the end of the match, one player will be feeling bad due to being doomed by the enemy's successful decisions, but that's the outcome we all accept when we launch the game.
Dota 2 had tournaments already in the closed Alpha phase and the developers balanced the units by seeing the best players of DotA1 test the sandbox - instead of reading topics like we have in this forum. Of course, Valve tweaks the balance to keep the streamers play various heroes so the viewers see the game as dynamic - but DoW3 does not need that. We can see the player simply be good and we will love it anyway. And that's what it's all about.
