Hello all, this mission is SOUL crushingly difficult for me. Seriously, the difficulty pacing hit a wall on this mission and I always get overwhelmed at the end waiting for extraction. Any tips on how to beat this level on hard mode?
Loadout: I shelled out the skulls to get the Terminators and Assault Terminators to go along with Gabriel. After failing that, I swapped out the Terminators for the Dreadnought. After failing again, I read some posts about using Diomedes to sustain your group with his aoe healing. Didn't work either.
My way of beating it I would say is a bit cheesy and uses AI bugs I found. First off only use your elites to complete the first parts of the mission. Get all the units you can using only the elites and destroy the Traktor Beam with the elites. After which bring in the entire force you got together and hold at the escape point. This well still take micro such as using jumps and flamers and elite skills. The dreadnought is the best choice I believe because its Q can destroy several groups of enemies if aimed properly. Also if you take the shields at the bottom with your regular units it sometimes confuses the AI and they just run around in circles and get shot to death. Diomedes might work also because of his heal but I dont see him being that effective because the heal isnt that great.
some tricks if you are having trouble
buy doctrines, there should be at least shorter cd on banner and you can buy elites, terminators help a lot
if you want use only elites you already have use deathwatch, no really they are better than jonah, and have extreme bonus, when you have Gabe on mission, all drop pods will heal your units and reinforce your squads to full count, and you can use deathwatch recall to send them away and then instantly summon them back for massive healing
use elites, elites, elites and only elites, I used elites the whole time and they can easily survive it, just sweep through the map collect ALL your units and every time just send them somewhere safe and continue again only with elites and use your giant army only for destroying the beam
manage your healing, sometimes rather than healing your elite, which can die without causing you to lose mission, you can heal squad and give them all its members back, when you have Gabe in squad, drop pods will heal you, meaning that you can use deathwatch drop pod for example to heal squads and dont forget YOU HAVE CHAPLAIN DIOMEDES who can use his Q to heal anything around him, you can just send him attack the traktor beam and stick all units around him and you can outheal even that meteor
Some dude had a good idea about spamming Killteam's redeployment, and combining it with Gabriel it heals and reinforces nearby squads. Save often, I saved every single lost detachment, and healing it with the drop pod and ended up with quite sizable force, and Orks simply couldn't melt it down before the timer expired. I only lost Gabriel of all the Elites, the 3rd was the VenDread, it was quite useful in clearing blobs with its abilities.
Ranged terminators and Dread did the job for me.
Clear all of them map with Termies and Dread, don't use your standart units for that save them for the final defense.
Use the Termies and Dread to destroy beauty form range then move in your army for final defense use the shield its important to save devastors.
Spam all of thier abilitys.
Try to use terminator teleport to kite enemys your units just must stand near the objective when the final one minute ends it doesn't have to be cleared of enemys.
The key to this fight for me was to have all of my ranged dealers stack up in the heavy cover that is closest to the extraction point, and using Killteam Ironmaw's redeployment to replenish their ranks as often as possible. Bind them all to a Ctrl group and then have a melee group bound to another that can run back and forth and counter the melee units while your plasma teams clean up. Of course, make sure you rescue all of the lost units as you move up the map first.
I managed to finish it on hard with all of these:
Again, only Gabe died, VenDread and Killteam survived.
Am I the only one that hot retry mission after failing, and when it restarted I had dioceses, Gabriel, and johnas as my three elites (even though that wasn't my loadout) but I also had Solaris and killteam....i had 5 elites including the knight. Needless to say I beat it on hard, but literally everything got killed and it was just Solaris crawling at 20% HP at the extraction. I had failed 4 times previous
