So yeah everyone is crying (most people are not realistic with their opinions) about balance in the first week of release. It is a bit.. silly. Sure there are some things that could be changed (very very minor changes).
No need to discuss them here specifically.
Something that nobody talking balance has touched is the maps. Even those self-proclaimed top tier/grand master/best ranked players didn't touch the matter?
Maps are a very important part of the game and have major effect on balance. The best rts of all time, brood war, was god awful before iccup/OSL and the other korean leagues and tournaments that spawned maps which redefined balance.
I would ask you this, forum dweller and critic of game design;
- What do you think of each of the current maps? Which strategy works on which maps? Why does this strategy work on that said map? Do you think it could be possible to stop the strategy by changing the map design?
- Is it possible to find a strategy specific to maps to defend yourself against something that you find OP on a certain map?
- If you already know that a strategy is coming, is it not possible to prepare accordingly? (bushes, waagh towers, defensive webway teleport, troop transport)
Ex: If you know that you cannot fight the Eldar openly as Ork with your t1 boyz, can't you give up map presence until you tech up to t2 and get some vehicles? Why not? Could the map allow it in a way?
Genuinely interested in hearing opinions on the matter as many games did not get any form of proper balance and competition after awhile until the maps really started to get good. Could this also happen here?
What say you?
PS: Please keep the discussion focused in relation to maps, would like to get constructive ideas and opinions and keep the proper "balance whine" on other threads
TLDR: Maps are important for balance, do you think some maps are bad, why? do you think some maps are good, why? What do you think can be improved?
Cheers and have fun slaughtering humies!
