This is an opinion piece and shouting me down, arguing against me is perfectly acceptable and I expect some flak from eldar players.
Specifically, this is about 2v2 competitive play against Eldar.
I'm not at the highest skill cap for RTS, but I do have a strong 75% win rate in DoW3. I have played all Relic games at about 50hrs-1000hrs for each title as well as other RTS titles. I have a good knowledge of what each race does, produces, watch gameplay to improve, and generally know what to expect.
I have played against this combination at least 6 times and am having a tough time trying to figure out a counter.
I play with comparatively intelligent teammates off my friends list that are reliable and have an idea of what's going on.
Alright, let's start:
I'm struggling to effectively win or at least lose gracefully to double eldar players using
1. Tier 1 Webway Relocate.
2. Stronger Dire Avenger Shields.
3. Extra Grenade Damage.
They group up together with 6-7 Dire Avengers, and push out 2 Scorpion elites. I can contest up to three squads with ork boys, occasionally four if I switch between two close units. Even with a combination of a banner drop, and three successful Boyz Shout channelled, we still lose the initial encounter even if all melee units successfully engage ranged units without losing hp.
As an Ork player with a SM partner, we are microintensive. He builds ASM to contest in melee, and I do the same with Ork Boys.
We generally end up losing the initial fight, as the Dire Avengers can simply drop grenades on themselves and range us down before we can retreat. I usually don't blob my starter units, and I do my best to avoid grenades.
To make matters worse, trying to assault their webway is currently not possible. The damage from three Ork Boys + 3x Channeled Shout + Scrap is not substantial enough to destroy a webway, as the warp time on it is very small and it simply regenerates. This means challenging their fleet of foot is extraordinarily difficult. It's a non-option for me at the moment.
About two minutes after we lose the starting fight, their Scorpions land and make it much harder to contest their avengers in melee, at which point each player can field about six each. We're very fortunate if theyre not smart enough to challenge our shield generators with their scorpion's true damage.
We lose. Hard.
I can usually kill 5-6 squads once my Weirdboy is fielded (an already insanely powerful elite), but that comes a little too late, as they've captured and pushed us to our base (or worse, destroyed out shield generators by 6mins30sec)
As this point their first wraith units are hitting the field, and I don't have the resources to build nobs or use scrap to make kans. My resource production is crippled and I can't muster up enough of a returning force.
I'm simply starved for resources and unable to regain ground, and am not sure how to counter two coordinated eldar players using the same disciplines.
I'm convinced this particular combination is a little over powered, particularly in 2v2.
I'm very sincerely open to suggestions, but I'm not sure how to win against this matchup.
