I mentioned this in another thread but thought it was worth its own thread. We are currently seeing a lot of people playing the same builds and strategies with large amounts of a single unit and utilising abilities that come from certain doctrines.
We also see that people migrate en made between these strategies.
I think there is an unintended consequence of the doctrine and elite unlocking system in that one player finds a good doctrine or elite and other players follow. Because the doctrine have to be unlocked players are unwilling to "grind" doctrines that they do not know are strong to unlock them as this carries the risk of losing games and also putting time into a doctrine that may not be worth it.
Hence we see mass ASM using the assault leap doctrine and all eldar playing scorpions until someone realises Kyra is awesome too.
A possible solution would be that all elite command and presence doctrines (but not army unlock) are unlocked so that players can at least try them without having to grind to level three then level 8. Army unlock for an elite doctrine would be reduced to level 5.
This retains the problem of having to unlock the elites in the first place but would reduce the burden of investing time to get to level 3 to try a command doctrine.
I don't know if this is the best solution, i think unlocking all doctrines and elites would be better for the game but that would destroy the profession system. Not that many people actively like the progression system
