My steam review
Story wise it is the same plot as Dawn of War 1
The campaign gets pointless and time consuming on certain missions.
If you haven't heard, but yes there is only one game type and it is the thing that people instantly point at dow3 and call it a moba. There are shield generators, turrents and a power core and depending on which map you play you can normally go down 1 of 3 lanes. The lack of classic game types like control point and annihilation are a huge disappointment. The single mode called power core is also not fun to play in a 1v1 match and struggles to have any real enjoyment expect pounding your enemy into a bloody paste.
The concept is very interesting but the execution was underwhelming some of the elite units should have been buildable in game instead of gated as an elite unit e.g. StormBoyz for the orks. Also how elite units are gained is in fact really fustrasting you have to gain elite points to then purchase these elites and spawn them anywhere near a captured point or your base. With no cost besides elite points purchasing elite units they can singlehandedly win early making it extremely difficult to comeback if you dont have an early game elite.
There is only about 3 unqiue upgrades for each faction and spacemarines tactical marines being able to be equipped with a flamer or plasma guns. This however seems to be overlooked because of the doctrine feature. Besides those the only upgrade you have is generic hp+ and dmg+ for infanty and then vechiles
I think these should just be add into the game as upgrades in game instead of a pre game set up. These doctrines can dictate how you play making gameplay more monotonous and certain doctrines are particularly unfair for the other factions. An example is a Banshee upgrade that gives them a shield replenishment everytime a banshee squad kills 6 units, this is plain unbalanced against factions with high numbers like orks given that a single basic ork squad has 8 units while spacemarine has 5 and eldar 6. Imagine these essentially unkillable banshees hacking away against 3 to 4 ork squads and winning. That is only one example of a doctrine that is unbalanced there are quite a few given there is about 20 for each faction.
There are only 3 factions ork, eldar, and spacemarine basically your battle manic monsters, space elves and super humans. Each one showcase a unqiue mechanic orks can use scrap which is generated from Waargh towers, destoryed buildings or vechiles, scarp is used to upgrade existing units or have speical interactions. Eldar has fleet of foot which is an increased movement speed around webway gates also increased shield regeneration when out of comabt. Space marine has drop prods and a banner cause they didnt give spacemarines enough speical abilites, you can build units from these drop pods and call them in anywhere on the map as long as you hace vision and the banner gives a shield and health regeneration in an area.
Currently spacemarines are by far the most played faction because of its simple structure and features that out class or is similar to the others. 1 thing I must say WHIRLWINDS NEED TO GO THEY ARE OP.
Units do not have independent health and all is tied to the squad total health pool meaning an overheal can get you free units making all healing mechanics pretty much broken. This also makes aoe abilites either do too little damage or do too much damage and powerful single target shots can kill multiple unit such as ronahn which breaks the immension for me. DoW 1 and DoW 2 both had this feature and it was far more exciting watching each squad memeber fighting tooth and nail as at any moment any one of them could drop dead instead in DoW 3 taking a single hit can now drop 1 or 2 models which make eldar rangers the most annoying thing to deal with.
Armour type and damage type was seriously dumbed down to the max you have either normal or heavy armour then there is normal or armour peicing damage...
DoW 1 did not have these and just had raw stats, DoW 2 had a far more complex and fulfilling system that made each unit feel like they actually excel at their given role
Status effects should make sense a heavy bolter nor upgraded loota squad should not be able to slow down my 14m imperial knight paladin let alone my tanks or walkers. I should not also be able to stun lock a scout titan class walkers with 3 ard boyz and gorgutz.
Pass it not worth the money for the time
