Selecting Options Before the Match vs. Selecting Options During the Match
---The combination of less overall upgrades in each match on top of a Micro Intense Spam Fest of Weak Line Units vs. Elite Units creates a very fast paced, almost watered down, Moba like experience, yet still feels at times very much like a classic RTS game.
---This is the major flaw IMO, and it is not in the fact that they changed the cover system, designed sync-kills differently (better imo,) designed the units to flow more like a SC 2/WC 3 game, etc.
1) Army Doctrines:
This system actually limits you in what strategy you can apply per each match. IMO, they should of utilized a Tech Tree System like in Company of Heroes 1 (more depth like the Blitzkrieg Mod) with all these upgrades on top of their SC 2/WC 3-like RTS Formula.
2) Elite Units:
Though I do not think the system of only selecting three is a bad idea, it is not too shabby and pretty decent. But because of the overall game design I still think allowing all Elite Units in game divided into category's (e.g.- HQ, Elite, Monster,) to where you could only pick 1 each of the HQ, more than 1 of the Elite or Monster types. Keeping the Design of the Elite Requisition Rate Low so that even if you had all these Elite Units available divided into categories, it's not like you could pick every one each match. So if gives you more options & strategy per each match "In-Game."
3) Meta/Game flow:
The game flows a lot like a SC 2 / WC 3 RTS game and if you are a fan of RTS games that should appeal to you.
Remember the SC 2 Devs said they tried a cover based system during development but it did not work for what they were shooting for.
But again, because of the sharp contrast of much weaker Line Units vs. the Elite Units the game does not flow or feel as balanced as it could be.
So picture the following Space Marine Example:
*each Tech Tree having at least 12 upgrades.
Tech Tree One: Rapid Deployment Tactics
Rapid Drops Pods, Improved Deathstorms, Emperor’s Influence, etc.
Tech Tree Two: Infantry Focused Tactics
Apothecaries available, Fire on the Move, Tact Grag Grenade, etc.
Tech Tree Three: Heavy Armor Focused
Ablative Armor for all vehicles, Thunderhawk Re-Deployment for all vehicles (maybe at a Req/Power Cost,) Blessing of the Omnissiah, etc.
Stronger Line Units Available: all the current Line Units with maybe 2-3 more added later.
More Modes: VP and Annihilation.
Buildings to occupy as an additional cover mechanic.
All Elite Units available during each match:
*each unit could still carry 1-2 “Presence” only doctrines.
HQ: Gabriel Angelos, Librarian Jonah, Chaplain Diomedes
***You can only pick one of each.
Elite: Kill Team Ironmaw, Terminators, Assault Terminators
You can pick more than one of each.
Colossal: Imperial Knight Solaria, Imperial Knight Paladin
This could go either way as in 1 each, but I would love to see more than one so instead of a Solaria & Paladin we could have two Paladins or Two Solaria’s (though Solaria might need to be changed to just Imperial Knight Warden or Crusader.)
