This is my first post in these updated Relic forums - I was an "avid" poster in the previous ones
First, let me express my gratitude for the Dawn of War series. You shaped my everyday life with these games!
...So I am a modder and DoW passionate lover of the games, member of the Thud's modding team, and the primary coder there.
As you may already know, we have created many race mods (like Dark Angels, Thousand Sons, Chaos Daemons etc.).
And I have also taken it upon myself to create a super combiner for them all, namely the Unification mod.
This inquiry is obviously about Soulstorm (DoW1).
What I have to ask of you guys, is simple: It is possible to create a (STEAM) update for the soulstorm.exe, to allow >2GB mem allocation??
Mods like Unification and Ultimate Apocalypse DESPERATELY require the increased memory buffer, because of the huge amount of content involved.
Now, us suggesting players to modify their own exe is NOT proper - it is ugly and I am not sure it's 100% legit to modify copyrighted content...
Thus, the BEST way is to be made by the creators' hands
So is it possible? Can you officially enable the >2GB buffer in your next patch?
It is very easy to do, so it is solely up to the company's policy to decide if this is OK to do - I am not aware how these things work!
Plus, such a fix will improve the seamless operation (absolutely CTD-free gameplay for huge map games with all 8 players involved). To me, it sounds like a win-win, but then again I am not a developer!!
Anyway, thanks in advance for your time brothers,
P.S.: I re-posted this in the Legacy Discussion thread, but I must have misplaced it or done something wrong because my post is lost...
