I don't think anyone will turret farm, since artillery will probably just make turrets useless in lategame.
Turrets will most likely be used as a way to punish T1 over-aggression, or as support to hold out points.
I also would not be surprised if we see some "siege" turrets, being used to help contain someone in their base or natural resource points.
Imo the Whirl Wind needs nerfing as it is. It is a pet hate of mine as an Elder player, there are no counters especially on certain maps. It goes hand in hand with weak and obsolete Shadow Spectres (even with all doc's, tried and failed), I don't get them; sure they can hover over any part of the map (which is why they die easy) but their dmg output just doesn't work as they lose focus too easily and have to start over for intensity.
Turret rushing points yes but if you try to protect a base with turrets (especially T1) you will die. Turrets can't micro- they can't run away when being fired on, they can't rush into attack, in team games they can't move to help an ally that is being 2 vsd 1 and while u spend your cash on turrets you lose the map. Don't get me wrong there is a place for turrets but lean on them too hard and you will die (though only from experience of previous DoW1 so who knows, it could be different here?)
A bit off subject? Soz but, Yay Annihilation i s here!
Edit: Ofc that excludes the Elder turret that can be relocated?? (pls pls give us our powers back and stop the racism )
Relics, please do not share annhilator queue and core mode queue.
I prefer core mode and do not want annihilator mode. I think annihilator fans feel the same.
If they want it, let them search game separately. Annihilator mode will not work on 1x1 maps. This is win after the 1st charge encounter and will require special balance.

how about improve the UI? its very bad this game. ONE example: I can't select all squads of a type by double clicking. is there a way to get a partial refund?30 dollars back would make me happy.
Erm, you CAN select all squads of a type by double clicking.. you can also customize some of the UI in settings.
A lot of hate still. I'm very happy. Not about this patch. But we can see, Relic try really hard to improve this game. So maybe not tomorrow, not in 1 month. But i'm sure, within half year/one year (and 1 dlc with necroncs+new story) this game will be enjoyable (more or less) for everyone, just like DoW2 or DoW1 are right now.
There is no need for cry or hate. No need to repeat posts. Everyone know that DoW3 had a bad start. Probably even people which made this game.
I also know, Relic has pride. And they won't stop working until they won't made this game really, really good.
Because i love DOW, i wanted this game to be good but knew this was not going to work, a lot of the 'haters' wanted more from this game and its clear they have listened. DOW 3 on release was not good enough, you can have games like DOW 1 & 2 then follow it up with something that has less content.
DOW 3 is the closest to i will get to 4 if they change the hell out of it.
"We know there are lots of you who don’t feel the same way."

Nice gif!
Than why shart all over the place trying to get people to not play the game and spread doubt when it was obvious that relic was gonna fix this stuff?
I really think that Annihilation should be added to ranked games, but only after thorough testing which can be done is custom games, I suppose. It would be terrible to further split the player base, though, so I would suggest flipping a switch for every type of game mode you feel like playing, just like they have now but with more radio buttons. 1v1 would need two buttons: 1v1 Power Core and 1v1 Annihilation. This way we could queue for various modes at the same time. People seem to be clamoring for Last Stand, which to me doesn't sound like it would be that difficult to develop. From what I've read, that would bring a lot of players back. I understand that this would be a ton of work, but I feel that the game desperately needs more races, and that the first one should be a freebie. Free, because the main game was way too thin on content for the full price of a AAA game. I'm still fairly loyal, and really want the game to succeed, but also feel like Relic owes us one due to the paucity of content that was offered on release. The campaign was also uninspired, although the maps were freaking beautiful. It would be a shame to leave all of those assets at less than their potential.
To summarize, if I were Relic my road map would be:
Annihilation (ranked, able to queue with Power Core) and balance (should be worked on constantly anyways)
Last Stand (people want it!)
Free race (they owe us something substantial, and this would DEFINITELY bring players back)
Tweak the Campaign (The campaign was passable, but not great. It would be nice to see them patch that up a bit, or at the very least have the balance changes affect the campaign, so that it remains relevant and viable as a tutorial).
If all of this were done, DoW3 would feel like a proper AAA game, which is what we paid for. I enjoy the game, and am a big fan of Relic. It just honestly doesn't feel like enough of a package yet. I would honestly love to see this game reach its potential, of which it has tons. I'm already enjoying the game, but it hasn't become my hobby-game the way I thought it would. Good luck!

that would be my dream Roadmap. probably just the campaign part out and for that more maps but.. atleast something like that.
as much as im excited im also a little bit nervous about introducing a new mode at this stage when the players are low.. your dividing base which would make que time longer .. i personally dont have any problems with either of modes as long as I have players to play with.
Adding a new gamemode ( And maps, as has already been done and will be done with this patch again ) addresses my number one complaint i had after playing the beta. With the Steam Summer Sale comming up, i hope for a nice deal on DoW3 to finally pick it up.
@Kat_RE : As there will have to be a Level Editor update to enable mapmakers to create Annihilate maps, are you going to address the bug where saving/exporting a level twice will make it disappear from the list? Or has that one been fixed in the meantime?
Regarding turrets. I think Eldar one reminds me a bit of Platforms, since Eldar don't have them, that might be good way to expand on this. SM turrets are already in the game, so it's no brainer to add and Ork turrets wouldn't be a problem to design I think.
Amazing step in the right direction and the new game mode is very welcome, i had a question. in the power core mode buildings in my opinion dont have much health and are quickly taken out. is there any diffrence in health for the new game mode?
also will the doctrines that affect the turrets currently (more health and DPS doctrine and the reinforcements doctrine) also affect the buildable turrets that are coming in the update?
keep up the amazing work!!!
Hey @FireScorpion - thanks for the questions! The HQ has less health in Annihilation mode than in Power Core mode. However, they are re-buildable by a worker unit and there's no limit on how many you can have. Decoy HQs? Be our guest!
The turrets are not affected by escalation phases, and are not currently affected by vehicle or heavy infantry upgrades. It's something to consider if they fall off too swiftly in the late game - but in the current iteration they are not upgrade-able.

Annihilation Mode will be available in Custom matches only - so if you are playing Quick-Match, you will only get into a Power Core game.

I have a question, if the turrets were build on bushes, will it attack nearby enemy squad?
Yes they do attack from stealth cover, so it can be advantageous to build them in those areas. Your opponents won't be able to see the turret, but will defend the area as normal. Of course, then they might have an idea that something is in there.

Jessezen has it right earlier in this thread - Annihilation needs to be put in as a toggle option for the Quick Match players. Maybe you need to check the balance of it, but it absolutely needs to arrive. Why would you put another game mode in and then block it off only to custom games?
@Ace40k said:
great plan ahead, Relic. and good job, Kat! really appreciate the update you have brought us!
however, i hope i get this right: these new turrets, will they be like buildable base turrets (like Waagh tower) but for all factions? (my most preferred option)
or will you place them somehow else?
or will you not place them at all and they are already pre-placed before match start? (least preferred)
The turrets are essentially buildable base turrets, but in order to build them you need to equip the doctrine. Each faction will have this option, and the doctrines will be given for free in the update.
To build them in-game, you need to select a builder unit and spend resources to start the build. You can place them anywhere you could make a building before, and there's no hard cap on how many you can have, but they will count towards your population. So if you decide to go full turtle-mode, you're trading resources and population that could have otherwise been spent on building a bigger army.
Annihilation comes in two flavors: Annihilation Classic and Annihilation with Defenses. The second mode, Annihilation with Defenses, starts you off with some turrets already built in pre-determined locations, regardless of whether or not you brought the doctrine to build more.
Why the doctrine slot?
This was a good move by relic to force players to make that strategic decision pre game to bring turrets along. There should be more doctrines like this IMO. Opens up new builds and players can figure out if they want to use turrets offensivly or defensivly.
I could agree with that, if there were more slots like that. Most of them are strangely upgrades for units that could easily be in the tech tree.

That's the problem with this, I don't think anyone plays custom matches since I don't believe they increase rank. We really do need a toggle between annihilation and powercore for quick matches to make the annihilation mode relevant. I do see a problem with this though, since it will split the community a bit into playing all of the different modes. I don't know how you guys will solve this issue but I do hope it does get added as a toggle for quick matches, otherwise no one is going to be able to experience annihilation mode.
