This is a post directed at Relics balance team. And other Eldar players struggling against this. I base this on team games, 2v2 and 3v3. This is also probably relevant in 1v1.
The strategy the Space Marine player is going for is essentially just mass scouts in early game and supported by the kill teams large dps to fill the whole. With no power being spent in t1 a fast whirlwind or land speeder, and then whatever else they choose after that, weather it be preds, fast whirlwind - whatever. With no need to get infantry upgrades to stay competitive in the early game it makes this is a completely viable and very competitive strategy. Basically working off the huge utility scouts give, that being the stun grenade. Scouts are only 200 requisition so they can be made in mass. Any unit, or units if blobbed are essentially dead. Because they will be chain stunned and just gunned down. With no return fire. No losses. So one mistake, and kiss your units good bye. So you cant just sit there and trade, you have to dance around them for ages. I dont find the damage out of stealth ability hard to deal with as this has counter play.
I play Eldar, and i will be basing this off my perspective of how to counter this. The counter being, spread dark reapers protecting resorses, while teching up for some AOE damage, either at range or being mobile close range to avoid the stuns. Where does this come from? Falcons, or Fire prisms, both requiring a very large power investment, that can be countered. Or rift blast wraithguard, however this is risky with whirlwinds.. which are very easy for sm to make. Thats quite a large investment to deal with a 200 req unit that can be eaisly spammed. You also have to pick Macha to survive until then, because without Macha, you have no AOE damage outside of dark reapers. Dark reapers alone wont work. So thats one elite I HAVE to pick against Sm, simply because sm count potentially do this. So thats one choice for elites. Warp spiders and Kyre could also be used, but Kyre being quite gimmicky is generally out manoeuvred at a higher level.
Scorpions are basically useless, but must be chosen if you want to play an honest game against SM, should he be playing without scouts. Banshees are useless against this, because they wil just get stunned and die. DA's dont have enough DPS because they cant stay on target for long enough, as they will have to move to avoid ... stunned and dead.
So whats my point. This point is, scouts in mass is simply boring to play against an easy to do strategy, and makes me have to play 500 times better to counter, and the only way i can win against it is to secure an area with dark reapers, and tech to something that gives huge burst and aoe damage, ideally the fire prism. All because of scouts. If you ask me, I think this is wrong, and something should be done about this. It completely limits my play style and makes for single minded gameplay every game, and im limited to what my elite choices and unit doctrines are because scouts counter most of it.
So please Relic do something about this.
Reduce range of stun? make scout dps none existen? Have a support package upgrade which costs power to enable the grenade? Just some idea's.
On another note, scouts are a 200 req scout unit, which provide cheap vision all over the map, I on the other hand have to spend 400 req and 50 power, just to get a single ranger out to do exactly the same job...
