This is a thread about improving Eldar's global ability, particularly the difficulty with maintaining webway coverage in the late game, which Eldar are weak without.
These suggestions are separate but could be combined:
1 Allow me at T2 to connect my webways together to create webway coverage in a line between them, instead of in a circle.
This would work by giving webway gates an ability a bit like Connect webways, which allows me to change the webway's radius from a circle to a line connected to another webway. This ability can be used every 60 seconds and can be to connect a webway to any additional number of gates, but I cannot restore the circle formation without breaking all connections with that webway.
Width of the radius should be fair, probably enough to cover most of a lane if placed dead in the centre, so there is a disadvantage to using lines instead of circles. This system allows me to design webway coverage strategically, and is also -extremely- flavourful imo, as I will be spending the match designing a literal 'web' of speed boosts for my units, with teleportation between gates available at t3.
I suggest that the length of these lines is not limited, because it makes the system un-intuitive. Instead the width of the lines is limited, increasing with tiers, which rewards either deft placement of numerous webways or some micro to keep units in position and within FoF.
2 Give webway gates buffs but proportionate resource cost increases over tech level.
Webway coverage in a circle should be buffed at T2 and T3, as compensation for the increasing strategic difficulty of keeping them alive and the larger, more mobile armies with high dps now on the field.
By making power and req cost also scale, up to 50 power at T3 (but with a radius twice as large) would make webway gate strategy change throughout and would make webway gates a tool that changes as the game progresses. It would also make the placement of webway gates require a lot more strategic thinking, as you would be rewarded for building plenty in T1 to save on the costs and benefit from the scaling advantages in to the late game, but requiring commitment to keeping them alive.
3 Remove Connect Webways from production buildings, but make it available for Webway Gates at T2, with a 75/75 upgrade from the Soul Shrine.
Another option for increasing the strategic usefulness and viability of webways and allowing Eldar to compete better in the late game. I hate having to build extra warrior portals to teleport my troops in T2; this would make using Eldar's teleportation ability far more convenient to use. It is little used as it stands because maps are small, and there are other options for moving armies around. I think this would be a fair buff that places appropriate restrictions of time, allowing opponents to come up with a counter-play.
