edit: another quick example:
Dungeon Keeper 2, massive success, praised by crapload of people, loved and renowned game.
Recently it was re-made as War for Overworld and no one gave a crap about it - that is another example of a successful game that did not passed the test of time and nostalgia for its predecessor was not enough to keep it relevant.
War for the Overworld from an Indie developer,
who makes for first time a game = Owners: 215,737 https://steamspy.com/app/230190
Well I admit the game did have good intentions but the lots of DLCs
and its not really modern day graphics game.
And this game is more "kids" friendly that its predecessor.
Its pretty obvious they did "dare" more by the older Dungeon Keeper games.
Problem is instead making the game for the targeted audience, we are getting kids friendly games, thats why we are for sure loosing the targeted audience.
War for the Overworld 2 with modern day graphics and if they do dare to depict properly this universe, it would for sure be a huge hit.

for example the depiction of the main "female character"
this War for the Overworld succubus vs Dungeon Keeper 2 featuring the Mistress.
