Gents and ladies,
I bought this game when it came on steam and refunded due to it not being what i expected / wanted from a DoW (Or any RTS) game.
I had a look on forums and on steam reviews and agree with what everyone was saying.
DoW3 hasnt got the following features which i really liked from the previous games:
-Cover system (bubble doesnt count)
-Supression (Slow isnt the same)
-Defensive buildings and battle fortifications abilities or squad erected obstacles
-More abilties and squad specialised abilties. Not just one off mechanics, i liked the commisar system for the imperial guard.
-Artillery, i love the phud and explosions of heavy ordanance blowing stuff apart.
-Mini turrets and fortifying forward positions.
-Unit customisation, like adding shotguns to a squad for anti melee or equipping a shield to my guy instead of a jetpack etc.
-Attaching characters to squads
-Retreating (Can be a speed boost with no ability to attack and player decides direction rather than an auto button)
-Fully destructible enviroment, including the ground (For me this is a must)
-sync kills (offline play only)
-Emphisis on battle tactics positioning, melee and ranged.
-Brutality and more darkness of the 40k warhammer world.
I basically hate all the new mechanics with the phasing, power core, elites, doctorine system the devs created (Why do i have to choose elites BEFORE a game? Why cant i choose during to counter my opponents game decisions?) and i hated not being able to smash the hell out of the map, leaving everything a ruin with craters and rubble, player built cover and ability cover (Eldar shields) being the only things left.
Would of been amazing if they expanded and built upon the cover system from previous games to include, ruined vehicles, trenches and dug outs, sand banks, rubble, enviroments like long grass and rocks, even dead bodies of slain xenos.
Or added obstacles like big craters and sundered landscapes which vehicles couldnt cross, or bogs / marshland / warp fields / demon pits and rifts, that would form from using ordanace that wouldnt allow heavy units to cross or zone off areas for a period.
Created elemental fields with abilties and weaponary like gw2 area of effect fields giving off, healing, morale / damage boosts, aoe dots or conditions (like setting people on fire or cc) allowing for cool combo play.
If i rebuy using the coupon can i expect a change in mechanics? Or can the game be modded to impliment the above, i see a lot of the community members gearing up to try and change dow3 for the better.
I hate that the DoW developers changed the game direction and would love to read an explanation as to why relic decided to move away from the other dow games. It really bugs me that they did this as i really liked DoW 1 and 2.
Is this game worth buying or should i sit on the coupon and just play DoW 1 / 2 in the mean time.
Has anyone got a link to a relic response on the current situation on the game and its current state?
If they did dow 3 properly it could of been the first proper indepth rts esport, comparable to the popularity and indepthness of dota 2, which is like 3d live action chess.
Indepth game mechanics always make for better games. Imagine having to deny an advancing players cover or access route, or flanking an opponent due to turning circles preventing rapid response.
So is it worth another investment, should i just sit on the coupon, or wait for another possible DoW game in the future?
Its ok if im not your target audience any more i can just find another game.
