This movement of eliminating the skulls, by Relic, is a strategy that has a double reading:
It helps eliminate the initial barrier that existed for new players in accessing all doctrines. (That is, at least, the official version)
When there is no online currency, the possibility of paying with it vanishes, so two options can occur:
The new DLC will be paid, but at reduced costs and thus help to finance the game slowly, but exposing itself to the progressive loss of players to have the impression of having an incomplete game or composed of many pieces as a puzzle .
Or the new content additions will be totally free, except for expansions and new races (or not), just for having the main game bought and thus, compel the future players to buy the game with the appeal that, add new content. Therefore, players are spending more initially and Relic gets more benefit by attracting new buyers influenced by good support (which ultimately is what engages players ).
So I see it, valuing the business options that exist.
You do know there is less ppl playing DoW3 than there are ppl playing DoW1. And it is close to numbers of DoW2 players. For whom would they even drop a DLC? 1k ppl still playing this game?
And that is even if they didn't have a new shiny toy to break, AoE. Trust me, there is no DLC coming to save this game. Only things which they will maybe add will be an Elite or two which were probably made months ago.

Another doomsayer, i dont trust in speculations. Maybe you are right but maybe also not...only time will tell.
Aww, another Dread. The more the merrier, I guess... Still hope to see Apothecary one of these days. Or a Techmarine, Martelus is in the bloody comic, maybe he died at the end, who knows. But what's this fixation with the Dreadnought, first a skin now another Dread. What about Land Raider, yeah, ok, never happy...

Obviously, it is a commercial strategy to catch the attention of current players, sporadic players, pessimistic players who no longer play but protest (they will never be happy with anything Relic does) and potential future buyers who are afraid to buy or test the game for the amount of negative comments on Steam. With this, Relic wants to demonstrate, to all those who insist with the matter that they have abandoned the game, that the game is still alive and that they are still there ...
It seems that everything that is not an announcement of a new race or faction is not welcomed by some, especially by the most skeptical.
I believe that in this patch of October will add 3 new elites (1 for each race) and some more surprise. With this movement, Relic is going to capture the attention of many people, to achieve to wash their image and once they have achieved it will be the ideal moment to announce the production of an expansion.
New expansion, with a new race and campaign. "Awww, but what about rehauling this game into DoW1/2/UA mod. Is it dead yet? When you are going to develop DoW IV in the way we wanted?"

No one has said that it is only a new faction. I think they can put all the meat on the grill to attract a lot of people and rescue those who deserted, so they would include lots of content and new races, units, elites and game modes.
There is a lot of wealth in the world of Warhammer 40k and this game is implemented so you can take advantage of that to the maximum.
I think we have Dow3 for a while.
I know, I'm very optimistic but it's because I believe in the future potential of this game and in that Relic is a company with a very good track record and if it had not been that way they would not have assigned the AOE4 project ...

You should keep in mind that the announcement said Elites, not Elite, so there's more than just the Dreadnaught.

I think we should by word of mouth, say that it is really a great game and that you have been a victim of excessive hatred. Let's begin to perform objective analysis in steam recommending the game and how much it has improved since it was launched including its price. Relic would help a lot to get a new race, that would boost the number of active players.

An apothacary or tech marine elite is very likely. But they would be 2 pointers, which is pretty cool but then other races will need their 2 pointer options improved as well.
