Hi,
I've got a NVIDIA Geforce 940mx GB.
I like cranking the graphics up, but it runs slowly around 15-20FPS. I can counter this by gameplay resolution to 66%, however my question is: Why can't i just specify a numeral for gameplay resolution? I would MUCH prefer if i could set it to say 80% of gameplay resolution (which is what i do in other more intensive games like 2016 DOOM). Is there a variable I can change in the setting or config files somewhere?
Many thanks

Your game is bugged @JGRICH , I want you to go to documents and delete the contents of your dow3 folder,then restart and do a performance test. You should see a jump in fps.
JGRICH
@dukejason Hi, yes it was bugged. I did see a massive improvement, but all i did was change my settings to minimum, and then open configuration_system.lua and change the shadow value = 1.
I'm curious, is it possible to modify the 'game play resolution' setting to something other than the pre-set 66, 50% etc ?
Also, i'm a bit hesitant to follow your instructions, do i delete the entire contents of DOW3 folder? what happens?

I believe i understand what you mean and will post a small tutorial today for you,i will do it in a few hours.

Hey, got side tracked will make guide for you tomorrow

Garbage computers lol (2GB video ram is OK ;-p ) . It would be ideal if the 'game play resolution' setting could be manually edited to something like 80% or 85%, 66% is such a dramatic hit in quality it makes the game look like a 2003 game. Right now i'm running 100% but would prefer to drop it down to like 80% because i crave FPS!

Custom optimization for DOW 3 is very easy to do. The following guide will show you exactly how to do that.
Windows 10
Step 1: Go to your Start menu,click File Explorer,then go to Documents: My Games.
Step 2: Look for Dawn of war 3 folder ,then open configuration_system in notepad.
Step 3: Edit configuration_system file.
Editing the configuration_system file is very simple,for example:
setting = "shadows",
value = 0,
valueType = 2,
Change value to 1 to enable shadows, 2 to increase level of detail. The number 0 is lowest setting for any of the graphic options.
setting = "shadows",
value= 1,
valueType = 2,
Save your changes,and your done.

Im just confused now lol.

Thanks @dukejason . What I was hoping you would show is whether there is a way to modify the 'gameplay resolution' setting in the graphics settings (Not selecting resolution, mine is 1920 x something), it is by default set to 100%, and it can be lowered to 66%, 50%, etc. Do you know whether this variable can be modified manually using the configuration_system file as you propose? I'd like to set mine to 80% manually if possible.
dukejason
I'm going to look into that for you.

You Rock. Otherwise i'm stuck on Minimum quality settings with a manually set shadow value of 1 :-) ... doesn't look terrible, but i only get around 25-30 fps. Modifying gameplay resolution in other games (like Doom 2016) I have been able to get amazing quality graphics with high FPS, tweaking gameplay resolution to something like 80-85%.
JGRICH
Hey, any update on this? --- there has got to be a way to custom scale to 80%.
dukejason
Hey @Gorb can you please assist me with this issue, to my understanding I don't believe he can do what he wants with res.
Gorb
It doesn't look like there's a manual control for screen resolution. The ingame options are all there are in this instance, to the best of my knowledge. The game has settings for this, but I don't think 80% is one of them. Try 66%, see how that works, perhaps?
JGRICH
Hi @Gorb it looks terrible at 66% quality. So I play at 100% and suffer poor FPS, but an overall playable experience. It would be great if there was a way to CUSTOM set the Gameplay Resolution setting like in other games like Doom 2016, this allows the user to optimise settings specifically for their machine. I couldn't believe the amazing graphics with high FPS I was able to pull-off in Doom 2016, while, with DOWIII I have to strip down a town of settings (on minimum) to get a decent FPS.
