Adding a new faction or two would add more players. WH40K fans quite literally get religious about their favorite factions, and combined with the fact that SM, Orks, and Eldar are THE most common races to appear in WH40K games, its easy to understand how people would look at the faction choice and be like "meh". You see how many people cry about there not being Chaos, Necrons, IG, and Tau in this? I cant agree that it'd add another 3k players, but any boost at this point would be welcome.
@Czevak even if you added those races may have some play but will they stay. space marines are the most play and favourite of all armies in 40k yet this did not keep players around. orks and eldar are also highly popular yet this also didn't keep people around, you may see a small jump but in most cases it will probably drop quickly. imo this won't really help the game and something else needs to be done but as 1 person i don't know what, cause at this stage relic have tried things but yet the numbers never improved, added annihilation mode(maybe this was too late) turrets, time to kill etc.
I'm more leaning towards a rework but is that even possible atm, do relic have the funding for it or can get it from Sega i don't know. I'm more leaning this way because i just don't find the game fun and i play Orks in tabletop(so the army didn't keep me in the game) , I would like it to do well and thats why here and there i check forums, Cause if it truly dies there will be no more DoW games after this(most likely).

You could argue that DoW3 is in a unique position compared to other RTS games released (what other RTS games have been released in ht past 5 years that were high quality and not a Relic/Blizzard game?).
There's a lot of interest in playing Chaos or Xenos races in 40k. Comparatively, there's almost no interest in playing the new factions in games like Grey Goo (i.e. the Shroud).
I love dow3. I think i say it enough but, DoW3 was not a high quality RTS at launch. Saying so many times too, no presence of observatory mode is just unforgivable if you want to have multiplayers (so if you want that your game is still play two monthes after the launch). Lot and lot of beautifull idea, but a lack of money, time etc etc. I still think that this game (that hopefully is really fun indeed "imo") can come back, with clever decision.
You speak about grey goo, story is nearly the same. Fact is, this game is a new RTS, with an unknown background. At launch, same matter has DOW3, but 6 month later, everthing was present (observatory, better balance, lot of maps too), they organize one official tounrmanent, "pretty successfull". But they decide to go to a 4th race. And evne if they offer this add on, they should have try to save money cause, players were just looking somewhere else. Cause this RTS was unknown before. Community is still alive anyway. I organize last week a tournament, not worst or better than the purge tournament : 15 players, highest to smater players, and i put cash to help the entertainement. This was really cool and fun.
DoW3 is in better position to come back. Relic should feel it. Relic shouldn't put all dev team to AoE4, with just one community manager on DoW3. Actual players are not so low, and these players are multiplayers. They stream, they have tons of contact. If they enjoy some changes, they will spray the word!!!!

One or two new factions alone could likely double/tripple online numbers as that would mean much more match-ups and much more interesting team games and meta.
Numbers you pulled out of your hindquarters and based on absolutely nothing. The argument is ludicrous.
Sorry to disappoint you, Sweetiepie, but yours is just as good as mine.

hi everyone.i really want to know what will you choose so please answer.consider these 2 options for dow3:
1)the core of the game remains the same and relic add more content(new races+game mod+units+elites...) and also balancing it
I'm happy with the core of the game, i like the pacing and intensity of battles. I would love to see more races added. Why not start small and just give us 1-2 in the first expansion pack? Chaos + Imperial Guard? There is tons of potential, even Admech or Necrons could be fun.
I understand the haters, we paid $70 for a fully fledged AAA titles which vastly under delivered on it's single player campaign. I think Dawn of War II was one of the first PC games in years that I actually played through the single player campaign multiple times. That being said, I'm ok to accept that Dawn of War Single Player is dead - however it could be revived with a dawn of war 2 Chaos Rising or DOW I: Dark Crusade style 'risk board' campaign with addition of 1-2 new races. I would be happy.
Personally, I already own the game, played a bit, and was dismayed there was no classical Victory point mode without those silly defend your turret and shield generator etc. Basically just hated the new game mode.
I do like orks, but I prefer Imperial guard and chaos. Neither are in the game.
I won't buy next xpac unless Imperial guard is included. probably won,t play the game until they get added either.
I'll gladly throw more money for guards. I would play most likely but not for very long unless we get different game modes (never been a fan of annihilation either.
What I want gameplay related:
directional cover
destructibles
retreat mechanism and or morale
an interesting single player mode/campaign something of a sandbox style like Kronus or Kaurava campaign (dark crusade or soulstorm where you could conquer territories and setup bases for defense etc.)
Now I also miss the character development of dawn of war 2, I mean between Lord general castor, adrastria, merrick, tarkus, the whole lot of freebooterz (especially them), I miss the story telling from those campaign, way better than this game.
I guess we could say I'm generally more "content" oriented.
All in all what I would like that could be feasible is:
dow 3 expansion that includes:
a Campaign like dark crusade soulstorm style map and territories
a classic game mode
Imperial guards and chaos
return of retreat and/or morale, cover, more defensive doctrines/turrets/bunkers for guards
a better story/character development
maybe other game modes if they have time and feel creative.
now that would be for me what I expected when they said: a mixture of dow 1 and 2 (large scale, good combat, story, fun game modes, and the best mechanics etc.)
Victory Point might be nice, but it would require adapting current maps for that mode, which for some of them I couldn't imagine them well. Besides I prefer Annihilation more than Victory Point.
Even if a rework is launched, I think the game will not increase the regular players, so at least make races, for the players who like the game and for the players who want their favourite race. (In fact,in this moment, I think it's better for Relic do a pay DLC with new race than a free rework.)
3 for sure.. The races are plenty balanced and upgrading elites can be done later.. to make the game more interesting and attract players you NEED new content! Not new maps (the community handled that for you) we neeeeed more races. I'm lucky if I can find more than 1 game going on and I find myself to be 1 of 5 people online almost every single night. I need to see more than the same 3 races or I'm going to lose interest too.
a new race costs a lot of money to create, models, voices and so on have to be created. The game has nowhere near the population to ensure a high enough amount of people even buys enough copies of it to make any kind of profit.
Honestly as someone who played the beta, who tried the free weekend, who wanted to love this game... they need a total rework to get me interested in buying the game. Elites, look cool, but ruin the idea of armies when I played, the focus was always on the elite unit and never the actual armies, I think they need to be massively scaled back and let the actual armies take the abilities to shine again, I want more dawn of war 1, in the game, but hell I'd be satisfied at this point if they just re organized the campaign to be... 1 faction then another faction instead of hoping back and forth every mission.
Will this be a patch, update or expansion?
Time 1-6 month or one year for expo?
The current game core seems ok just need rework around the place. Like a house but a game for instance will fixing things or adding a new person to the household change things adding more players or inprove the liveability of current householders. What is the current team you have what are the relic staffs strenghths and weaknesss will it be safe or risk depending on what is added.
How i see this is will they fix the issues of the game keeping current players happy fixing ballance. Add new races which will bring new players more safe but we old player will always see problems which will lose its atraction after they see the problems underlineing the game.
This is dow3 not dow2/1 for that matter production. We can always look back on thoses games for ideas which worked. Dow3 is different game at current glance i can see not many players so its basically do you what more new player by adding new content a race or rework the game fixing key problems that wont go away.
I dont think either of these options will save the game from death but prelong its life to current players or new players. Drasically changes would need to be made to make this game dire or really good but still too much risk and i dont what see this game completely dead so ill say i would prefer a new race chaos for example and continue on my jolly way and i really think we need more new players onces so we can help them inprove and they might actually stay more then 1 game. and beat me in the future.

Dear God, VP was crap, the most anti climatic ending EVER.
Haha yeah. Especially when people get desperate and start ninja capping vps just to stay in the game for longer xD i absolutly agree with ya. It was pretty lame at times.
I choose new content. I like the concept of having a big army + elites and micro/multi task intensive gameplay now imagine having chaos space marine army supported by Fogre/Maulerfiends, Greater Daemons and Daemon Princes, Tau army with Riptides, Stormsurges and Ghostkeels, IG army of Tanks supported by platoons of infantry and super-heavy tank elites, Necrons with their Monoliths and C'tan shard elites and swarms of Tyranids supported by Carnifexes, Trygones, Tyrannofexes and Boivore artillery.
Jumping Gabriel and some lore inconsistencies (that were present in previous DoW games as well) look like a petty exuses for haters if you imagine what this game can become with a couple of expansions and continued work on the base game (balance etc). I too don't like some of the animations (Gabe, Venerable Dreadnought's T-pose, overly twitchy Nobz, no relaxed/idle animation for eldar line units) and wished for them to be changed but come on.
I am for the first option: More Content! (how could you leave out Chaos )
The game is what it is. And the most unique part about the Dawn of War series has always been the amount of Races.
@Reyseth said:
1) I really prefer the new content, simply for see new units and a new race, no a rework what do nothing more than changes the game for after see anothers new posts " The rework si bad because blablabla". The actual gameplay it's simply and cool, if u want a deep strategic game go play civilitzation , star craft or gladius.
For deep strategic game play mod Firestorm over Kaurava for Soulstorm.
