I am currently putting a official tournament together for our community for Feb/March. Relic will sponsor this tournament. I would like some feedback from the community on what game mode and how many players.
Hmmm...........Not interested in playing in tournament, but if you ask for feedback............
Annihilation mode of course. I have nothing against Power Core, but having a tournament using a Annihilation mode would be a really nice thing and something new.
Annihilation with defences perhaps? You can easily win a Power Core match by exploiting a bunch of mechanics (even when losing) and Classic Annihilation has no defence against early rushes. Does the tournament have to be either 1vs1, 2vs2 or 3vs3 or can it be all three?

Oh yes. Annihilation with defences is what I play most in my compstomps. Not everyone likes too early rushes to a base.
1v1 Power core mode, but won't we want to wait for a balance patch?
@dukejason Also I replied to you about my problem, if you guys want to do a tourney it would be great if I could join and probably not DQ myself out because I cannot join for a 2nd game for example

annihilation mod 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 .. but first they must deliver what they promise in February orks eldar sm not enough there is Necrons and nom nom nom ......etc more factions will spice up things and more replay value more mechanics to toy with .

Talking about tournament before anyone talks about February content... That makes me worry... Well, anihilation with defenses for sure. The best way to play the game.
Most likely a tournament will be used in any marketing for expansion content.
2v2 or 3v3 power core mode would be great. Alot of people want to see 2v2 tourneys but 3v3 would be cool too, there was not a single 3v3 power core tourney so far....

1v1, Annhilation with Defenses
Besides that I have a rather big ask, because some of the maps in the pool can be very icky to play on, what do you say about playing/adding community made maps to the Tournament pool? There are some very, very good 1v1 Community Made maps out there, and I think not using them would be wasting good level design
But yeah, I think that for such a tournament and specially if relic is involved, I think it would give a great light to it to use some community made content, if for the PR alone, and those mapmakers which have their maps selected will also be very, very happy to have their maps be played on and showcased

Annihilation is boring, it fits not to dow3.
Relic hosted a 3v3 tourney by this man a while back. There was one.

I'd prefer 1v1 annihilation(with or without defences doesn't matter). Assuming the top players consider annihilation playable ofc.
I'd agree that it should be related to what the higher level players would prefer. If you're looking to generate hype and enthusiasm, casting and hosting higher level games is a good way to do that. Critics often say that dow3 is about mindless spam and elites destroying entire armies, and in low level games you sometimes see this. Better players play better matches.
2v2 Power Core would be nice. I would say annihilation, but I'm assuming there will be a spectator mode added in somewhere for Relics big announcement and viewers should watch what they're used to.

I don't know about this... watched handful of BaByuByu and few other top player streams. Literally every match BBB spams tacs as SM, (Eldar were spamming DAs, now mostly Rangers, Orks spam Shootas). He losing 90% of his army on regular basis, while entire win is bent on clutch moment where he catches his opponent in brutal skillshot combo then push to gen>turret>core, mainly featuring Elites and few line unit CCs as side assist. What different impression these games can give? Sure it displays impressive micro skills, but to what end?...

Well, i've seen hq building being taken down literaly in a matter of seconds by droppod + landspeeder with melta in that previous annihilation tourney(was it 3v3?). So, unless this was changed somehow in a patch i'm not 100% sure if annihilation wouldn't be too cheesy in 1v1 high level play. Didn't play it much myself too.
Sure high level annihilation can be more cheesy than power core mode can ever be. But bigamo says annihilation is sooo much fun, looks like he wasnt playing in the last 3v3 annihilation tourney....
If you dont play teamgames then how do you know? Annhilation is boring and fits not well to dow3 thats how i see it. In dow1 it was nice witha mix of vp control in dow3 its not nice at all.
A lot of the power core games seem to be decided on backdoor drops, or highly mobile true damage / anti armor units, that backdoor, and completely remove map control from the game. Basically completely ignoring fights and killing objectives. For that reason I would love to see an annihilation with defenses 2v2 or 3v3. So winning fights and taking resource objectives at key points gives the winning player the advantage, rather than oh u backdoor'd and gained a huge resource advantage.
With this in mind games will generally last longer, but will probably mean Orks ( escalation scrap, waagh/gorgutz heal ) will generally win. But that is more of a balance problem.

Why not just make the power core objectives more resistant/less rewarding to snipe. For example, I've long been saying shield generator should not give elite point (I think even if it only gave requisition it would be OK) - it's suppose to act as defense position to hinder early aggression - but instead if does the opposite and makes early aggression stronger by forcing a fight.
The turret reward should come down too imo - but it feels more acceptable since the turret is actually kinda hard to take out.
In a game where 3-9 dreadnoughts can be dropped in your base (and one where mass fire power can be massed and focus easily), the turrets and power core should really simply just have more HP - or give it special armor type or something.
Big maps are important as well - DoW3 needs more space in its map since the shield gen, turret, and power core take up quite a bit of space..

Eldar completely dominates annhilation thanks to Dark Reapers and Shadow Spectres both doing long range and excellent damage vs structures.
Kommando can also be a little crazy thanks to his boobytraps doing huge damage to structures too.
Annhilation is a bad game mode for DoW3. It was awful in DoW2 too.

2: 2 power cores are moderately large in quantity and costly elites are often visible, and are best for balance and viewing.
1: 1 is thin and 3: 3 is not good for viewing because there are many places around here.
And a good mode map is recommended. (See the comments of people choosing a map.)
