We all know the “transferring badges/drop bugs” are awful and as you can see here, Relic is not going to care/fix it anytime soon (
"we have been investigating this issue in-house but have been unable to reproduce it" ). So, I have been wondering what could influence these bugs from happening or not. Luckily, I’m not the only one still trying to play this game as best as possible.
Underneath you’ll find a list of things that may or may not influence these bugs from happening but ‘we’ think they do. Shout out to Pwaf for being so kind to take the time and share his thoughts with me. Most of the guidelines have proven to work and few are not completely proven but have been "seen" to give positive results.
If anybody thinks he or she has more relevant info, please post your ideas and reasoning in this thread. I’ll update the original post if I think the mention is valid or not, so the opening post has all important info combined.
The general guidelines to follow when hosting DOW games
REHOST! When hosting a game, know that the DOW servers are not great and many bug/errors/problems will occur over time.
This means you need to rehost your game frequently. Rehosting the game resets any bug/error that may/will have occured.
Be careful not to rehost your game with the same name as the previous game. The server could register your new game as
your old game as the names match the records.
For best results, simply rehost when you have a full game so that you can all rejoin and start quickly.
Much can go wrong in the time between game creating and game start. It is good to know what is bad and what is not:
a. Alt-Tabbing is very bad!! If you are not in game when countdown starts you could make the game take longer to process your information,
making other players leave early or bugging the game itself.
b. As host, changing the map after creating the game can be bad. It also does not register the change in the game lobby.
This means that players looking to join a game will see a 4 player map (Doom Spiral) in the lobby still even though you
have already changed the map in game to a 6 player map (Mortalis).
c. It is not the end of the world, but players who rejoin repeatedly can create a problem for the game.
d. Spamming the game chat log on game countdown has also been seen to create problems for game start.
Try to avoid chatting during the countdown just before a game starts.
Thanks again to Pwaf for sharing almost all of the info here.
If you have something to say, please keep it constructive and positive. If you have doubts about some of these guidelines, please let us know but present some reasoning/explanation as to why you think they are not influential. Same thing applies when you think you have something important to add to this list.
We are just trying to make it easier for everybody still trying to enjoy this game.
Thank you and may your games never bug out (they will…),
