To first, I apologize for my bad english. I'll try to be brief and cocise.
I've been playing DoW games for 10 years, since 2004, so I think my experience could be very helpful for the future of the franchise.
This game is done for fans of Wharhammer 40K universe.
The first trilogy of the saga was a success. The perfect reflection of the 40k universe, with a multitude of races and an exciting campaign. The skirmish games were absolutely chaotic and frantic. With unleashed chaos and a battle that could last hours or even days. It does not matter that players couldn't advance a single centimeter from their position after hours of fighting, because the war was so exciting that it really does not matter what the confrontation could last.
In DoW II, the new graphics, visual effects, textures, character and terrain design, was very well received, with the incredible campaigns of DaW II and its expansion, Chaos Risng. The multiplayer also suffered an unprecedented improvement. The introduction of last stand mode was also an achievement well received by the community. But the positive reviews from the players were 96% for DoW Soulstorm compared to 76% for DoW Retribution. This type of indicators already warned which was the way forward that should have taken the franchise. DoW III recovered certain aspects of the first games. Some of them are the possibility of building structures, a great variety of different vehicles and units, and research of technologies. The new function of Whaaaaag towers and cobweb portals and the introduction of scrap were notable changes. But the dynamics of the game is much slower. The chaos and the infinite struggle of the old skirmishes are extinct. The pleasure of seeing a good defensive position next to the firepower of a Baneblade are not present in Dawn of War III. I miss loading my game with the imperial guard in the middle of a constant battle and not listening to the continuous shouts and weapons of characters, or the continuous explosions of imnumerable tanks and vehicles that don´t stop firing. Dawn of War and 40k universe have distanced too much in this last installment. Relic has to go back to the beginning and learn from the mistakes. Listen to the players, they are the true veterans of this universe. Learn from the gift that THQ knew to provide perfectly to the fandom of Wharhammer 40k. Nobody wants to see die Dawn of War.
The best advice I could give to Relic and Sega at this moment is the next:
Forget about creating more Dawn of War games now. Remake Dawn of War I. Players need to return to the essence of Dawn of War, and relic too, to learn and reflect about Dawn of War really is and what is the correct way the franchise should follow.
Just do it. You needen't remake all first Dawn of War games. Only Danw of War Soulstorm.
Thanks!
