Depends on who you ask. It has more in common with vDoW and Winter Assault than it does Dark Crusade, Soulstorm, or DoW II. It's a traditional RTS campaign where you learn to build up your units before combining them into an army. There are some notable missions that work differently, like one with all your hero units (more like DoW II - which I enjoyed a lot).
I enjoyed it, but some missions take a bit of waiting as you build up your economy / units.
@Retroburn I liked it. There's fun dialog and an entertaining premise. Plus the gameplay in DoW3 is top notch.
The only problem with the Campaign IMO is the pacing on some of the missions. It SEEMS like (and this is just speculation) escalation phases were implemented AFTER the campaign was done and the result is that a lot of campaign missions have extremely slow resource gain with few or no resource nodes to improve that accumulation on. So you are stuck just waiting for enough resources to build the requisite army to do a thing. This is not the case for all of them. But on certain missions it really hampers the enjoyment.
Overall though, great campaign. I probably will play it again.

Some people claim that campaign is a crime against humanity because GASP you rotate factions between missions
This is why I severely dislike the campaign in DOW 3. They nailed it in 2 but this, it's nothing but a pain. I wish I could just skip to the faction I want to play and not have to rotate. No desire to play ork/eldar. It's quite dissapointing to be honest.

TL;DR - They're correct, it's a crime.
Not for those who actually enjoyed Dow3 campaign, like me or @Decepticats. But yeah, everyone has a own tastes and opinions.
It just feels backwards. 1 and 2 you could unlock the planets "as you see fit", which was the selling point. In 3, they've just stripped it out for something more streamlined and limiting. Kinda sad

Fact, but whatever. Myself enjoyed Dow3 campaign anyways.
