So I have always been a big fan of the dawn of war games, and I really enjoy them. With DoW 3 potentially in development, I thought I would share some ideas for things I would like to see.
This one is a contentious one, and I know there are mixed feelings about whether to return to basebuilding or not. Personally, I didn't like the lack of basebuilding originally, but I found that it grew on me over time. Here is how I think "bases" should work in Dawn of War 3:
Is everyone familiar with clash of clans, that mobile game where you construct a base? I think that bases in Dawn of War 3 should work something like that. Dawn of War has become about incorporating RPG elements and experience, so wouldn't it be cool if you had a persistent multiplayer base that you could expand and build over time? Regular multiplayer matches would play like dawn of war 2, where you have one structure that calls in units, but the units you are able to construct and upgrades available to you might depend on the composition of your main base. For example, in my Eldar base, I decided to build a striking scorpion shrine, and thus in this battle I have access to scorpions instead of banshees.
If someone defeats you in a multiplayer match, it might leave your base open to attack from them. Where they can then challenge you, and the match takes place on your home turf. Of course, your base would be heavily defensible, but if they managed to destroy it it could earn them significant xp/research/financial reward. This might result in a slight penalty for you, but having your base sacked shouldn't be too crippling
I think this is a great way to balance classic basebuilding with the dow2 style gameplay.
One other thing I would implore relic to do is tone back the DLC for dow3. I didn't like how you handled CoH 2 with its pay extra for commanders scheme, that felt almost pay2winish. I think DLC should be cosmetic only, like you did with DoW2
