I finally bought DOW1 last friday and finished the campaign yesterday, and I loved it! I wasn't very fond of the game when I tried the demo a few years ago, mostly because of the graphics and the 4:3 resolution (and also the path-finding for huge armies), but I gotta admit it was really fun to play. I'm so happy I still have three expansions to enjoy (but when they go on sale, because 10 euros seem too expensive to me). Oh by the way: the zoom mod was God for me. The default camera is way too close in my opinion.
I used to defend DOW2 approach over DOW1's classic one, but now I don't know what I would prefer for a DOW3. Actually I'd like to have both gameplays. Some missions with basebuilding and some with DOW2's heroes-based campaign. What I wouldn't like is a hybrid like Retribution's campaign.
In order to have basebuilding and heroes missions in the same campaign, I guess the level-up system for heroes should be dropped, and made somehow automatic. That is, instead of increasing points for a hero after each mission manually, I'd make it so after a mission your hero just gets more health, strength and energy, and a new ability and/or weapon (mabe you could choose between two different ones, to give the players a little choice).
As much as I liked DOW2, DOW1 was a f******g great game back in the day, and now that SC2 is close to its end, and with Grey Goo left alone to keep space sci-fi RTS alive, I think I'd prefer DOW3 to be closer to DOW1 than to DOW2.
Or, I don't know, maybe two different campaigns with 9 missions each, with the same storyline but told from two different points of view? I wouldn't need playing different races if I had that. I'd gladly pay 60€ or more for a DOW3 like that, and a new TLS
Thanks, Relic, for all DOW games.
