Game won't even start

Please help, i bought the whole franchise the past week and recently installed the dawn of war goty edition and the winter assault and they wont even launch, they appear on steam preparing to launch and then nothing happens. im currently trying to play in my windows 10 pc

Hey there!

Sorry you're having troubles!
Try going through some troubleshooting steps listed here:

I know there is an issue with having to find the DirectX.exe to install first so this may help in getting them to work.

Let me know if none of the troubleshooting steps listed in the link attached worked, and I am more than happy to investigate the trouble further!

I also have this issue. I will click Play, the "Preparing to Launch" window opens, and Steam says I am playing "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm" or any of the other Dawn of War 1 titles, stutters a bit between that and my "Busy" status and then it goes to "Syncing" and shuts off without a warning or an error. I have included a list below for what I have done already to attempt to fix the problem myself along with my Computer's Specifications and a list of running programs.

• Verified my Game File Integrity several times now on all titles.
  
• restarted my computer four times in this process.
  
• re-installed the games twice each.
  
• deleted the "Appcache" folder twice.
  
• allowed Steam to recreate "ClientRegistry.blob"
  
• attempted to run game in safe mode from both the game itself and the OS

Hey MFDViking!

Sorry you are having troubles. I understand that sometimes directX is outdated or having troubles. Have you checked to make sure this is up to date as this has been an issue especially with the newer windows 10 install.

My computer is saying it is running DX12 and has DX 7-11 installed. Steam had suggested I run the game with launch options "-dxlevel 90" or "-dxlevel 81" to fix the issue, but the issue is unresolved. I hope to be able to play the game soon.

I apologize for the late reply, I have been getting more hours at work due to a recent promotion. I will reply as much as possible.

(not taking over from Kellie, just helping out here)

What are your hard drives like? How old are they? Have you defragmented any of them recently (Windows 10 has automatic scheduled defragmentation but I haven't found it too reliable, personally).

Is both steam.exe and dow2.exe explicitly marked as safe through AVG? Have you tried disabling AVG temporarily?

My Hard Drives I will admit have not been defragged for a long while. They are both just under two years old. Steam.exe is indeed marked as safe for AVG, yes, however it's not dow2.exe I'm having an issue with, it's Soulstorm. But due to issues that AVG has with certain games, I always temporarily disable it. I shall attempt to Defrag and mark soulstorm as safe for AVG and inform if the issue has resolved.

The issue has not been resolved yet, I am taking my computer directly to Microsoft in the afternoon tomorrow, (Wednesday 3rd, February 2016) to see if they can fix the issue on there end, because I have only seen Windows 10 people have issues with it. I will inform this website on the results of that tomorrow.

Interesting, this thread will be useful for Relic I think. Were they able to diagnose what non-existent files were part of the problem?

Try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistribualble. In my case it came up with an error, saying it is already installed. The solution was uninstalling it (from controll panel) and then installing the latest version again. From now on DOW3 works perfectly fine
