I remember Gabriel Angelos as great character and I'm very glad that he is back in the Dawn of War III no more as the captain but as the chapter-master. He looks the most badass of all Dawn of War characters I seen in his terminator armor and iron halo. I just wonder if Gabriel Angelos will be able to change his abilities. He have a lot of area abilities and they will be not so useful against stronger foes I guess. Some non area abilities like iron halo ability or ability making bigger damage would be better.
I never like the captain from the Dawn of War II. He was stronger in normal armor than in the terminator armor and in the terminator armor he is stronger in close combat with the ranged loadout than with the close combat loadout... He was also able to destroy Eldar Avatar but when he was even unable to defeat Ork warboss. He was very sad excuse for the captain.
I hope that the chapter-master will be way better than this.
What are your biggest hopes for the Gabriel Angelos in Dawn of War III?

BUTI
Gabriel Angelos always was my favourite captain because of his character. He shouldn't let Kyras beat him up just like that in DoW2, but now it's new, better him. He just can't look better in this Cataphractii Terminator Armor. It makes him looks very heroic. Standard Indomitus Terminator armor would be just not cool enough for him.
Iron halo and increasing damage abilities would be very cool. Iron halo was very useful in the DoW2.
SharKnight
Tartaros Armor actually.
BTW the hammer doesnt really look like the original Godsplitter.
Do you think we could get an official miniature from GW based on this concept art? However I think Gabriel should have a Bionic eye, red like a ravens eye rather than just a plain scar.
HORDESLICER
Yes, Cataphractii always have those hanging belts from shoulder pads.
This thunder hammer looks more artificer (everything is golden) and it's much bigger.
They would not just take out his bionic eye without reason. I think he have something else there. You seen how much cables he has before. Maybe in M42 the Imperium is testing new bionics for the chapter-masters? Replacement for bionic eye, this unparalleled agility and the Emperor knows what else.
BUTI
Psyker vision or echo sonar? x)
Bionic eyes are looking better on ranged characters, that's why he don't have it. Gabriel is clearly heavy close combat character. I think developers don't want him to expose units using infiltration when Eldar are mainly based on it.
SharKnight
Godsplitter doesnt really look like the real godsplitter.
I think the art director didnt put the bionic eye because.... "muh version is better" rather than for a reason. It doesnt bother me really but I think any space marine would rather have a bionic eye or a bionic prostetic which functions and looks like an actual eye but with much more enhanced capabilities.
HORDESLICER
The thunder hammer in Dawn of War III will be looking the most powerful.
I think he wanted to be more fearful for xenos.
"Come aliens, show me what passes for fury amongst your misbegotten kind!!"
"No, brothers! These scars are increasing my thunder hammer stats!"
SharKnight
I disagree with that.
Unless it's sarcasm.
grigdusher
I hope the campaign story will improve the general background of dow3 and blood raven background: the combat ability and wargear should reflect the campaign story.
GABBO90
It looks like if the design was ported directly from league of legends to me...
I dont think the new gabriel angelos looks and acts heroic at all, now he is more like a ++heresy redacted++, a jim raynor wannabe.
Warnoise
At least Jim Raynor has a personality, here i quote what the director said about the new Gabriel Angelos:"He is just a big guy who smashes things with his hammer"
I think that says a lot about how far the art director knows about Gabriel Angelos.
I wish they change this guy and bring back Ian Cumming
Mr_Ruin
Gabriel Angelos is beloved by community (imo) cause he was in DoW I shown to be an intelligent commander as well as warrior. He explains Ork strategy, thinks how to outmaneuver them, he is gathering info throughout the campaign and tries to find an optimal course for third company. He is also less on the platitudes and more on real info and saying it as he sees it side of the imperial thinking.
He made Wh40K and SM which in most cases seem like just one sided cut-outs made of bolter porn and bravado seem like actual soldiers fighting in a war. War much different from wars of today, but still a war and not some crazy shooting gallery.
In DoW II he creates the plan to defeat Hive Mind, guides FC Hairgel and leads a successful rebellion against a crazy Chapter Master. So just cements himself as a strategist.
And what that experienced commander with wealth of command experience becomes in DoW 3? ''A big guy who smashes things with his hammer''
Bravo. Very well done. -.-
Devs, please just watch pre-mission briefings from DoW1. I think you will see what I am trying to say.
Orblivion
I'd say those two styles can still represent the same person. Dante, chapter master of the Blood Angels, is supposed to be one of the greatest strategists among the Astartes and is described as humble and almost soft-spoken, yet he also uses a jump pack to charge right into the thick of things at the forefront of his troops. So until we see some dialogue from Gabriel outside of combat to compare, I wouldn't claim they ruined him just yet.
Mr_Ruin
I did not say ruined. If they ruined it already I just wouldn't buy it, problem solved. There is still a chance to fix it.
Dante is a good choice. Yes, in combat he charges into the fray but he still does not troll his opponents with ''None of you are safe''. He fights his opponents, acknowledging Thraka's cunning in Armageddon and being that soft spoken strategist he is described as. Something similar for Gabe would be just ok.
Sindri
At least give him his voice back
"Imb4 in dow2 he didn't have it" no need for making the same mistake twice
He, along Sindri and Gorgutz, had one of the best voice actings of the whole series.
Lies
There isnt really much he can do vs a Demon Prince, even if hes not fully Transformed
Ellie
we've also only heard like 4 voice lines from him.
Renner
Not sure how several lines from the developers interviews about Gabe being a hero who smashes things (in terms of gameplay) turns him into a brainless brute all of a sudden. Even in that little of the campaign we saw he still seems like a capable commander. After getting linked with his troops again he gives Dauntless commands about dropping pods behind Eldars' lines, their exposed flanks, orders devastators to counter tanks, and finally - an orbital strike when they corner them in the end. And in all of that, he leads his troops into battle personally inspiring them, like he always did. Looks quite capable to me, and this is just a scratch.
His voice, though? I'll miss Paul Dobson, but I'm growing used to this one slowly. Hes doing a good job, and I think its not fair to spit at the effort of the new actor just because we are missing something what we are all used to.
SharKnight
Gee I dont know, he has a demon killing hammer right? How about killing it with it like every other Imperial hero out there?
Orblivion
Daemon Princes are serious business, even when using a weapon designed for killing daemons they are no easy target.
SharKnight
You under estimate Gabriel's weapon, he already killed a daemon prince once and who knows how many it killed before. It is not called God Splitter for nothing dont you think?
Warnoise
"Gabriel! don't go alone! they will kill you!"
"Let them try"
Proceeds to somesault his way graciously to the enemy base
Wow what a capable commander
I don't know about you, but i also made an effort for those 60$ that i am going to pay to play this game. It is not the effort that people think about, it is the result.
darkyjaz95
Like it or not, chances are Gab probably is gonna stay this way.
Cuz Relic don't want to make a MOBA, but is making a RTS that appeals to MOBA fanbase.
Renner
@Warnoise Apparently they were ambushed, and Gabriel ended up alone. Hes obviously in a hurry, and fighting against time "before this planet is overwhelmed." Fighting alone against odds for the sake of drama and excitement, hes having a terminator armor now plus those new powers, he can fend off some enemies for a while. In his old armor he would be slain no doubt.
And yeah, I'm making the effort for my money too, and its important to me that the game is good. A change in the voice cast (which by itself is decent enough) won't prevent me from buying the game. If that's your case, well..
Warnoise
This doesn't look like an ambush, but let's leave that for now because that mission itself is just to show the game.
Even Duke Nukem does the same, what bothers me is not the fact that he fights against the odds, it is how he reacts to those situations.
Well, i guess this is where we will never agree, not only the voice acting, i also think that the scripts are horrendous and unworthy of an AAA title let alone Warhammer 40k Dawn of War series which is famous for its high quality Voice acting and scripts. If all the other elements are amazing, i can overlook that, but combine that with the someaulting, the extremely standard mechanics and the Void ray space marine squad....yeah i'd rather not pay money for it.
Orblivion
My point was that the weapon, effective against daemons or not, only accounts for so much in such a battle. As was demonstrated by the fact that Gabriel was curb stomped by the second daemon prince he ever faced, and he was wielding God Splitter against that one as well.
Lies
If you know something about lore it doesnt work like that a Demon Prince is not an Eldar guardian where you look at it and it dies.
Lies
Yea but people Like Shark, think just becuse Gabriel had a huge hammer he could kill the a deamon Prince if we remember currently, in dawn of war 1 Gabriel united with the eldar to bring down Sindri. So yea let that go over your head.
Lies
I have to agree with you the Voice acting was really good and Gabriels voice was a legend, and hearing gabe with a different voice in dawn of war 3 kinda kills me inside +the Scripts are really really bad.But i wont Judge since its still in Pre Alfa i just Hope they dont ++heresy redacted++ it up im happy they will make it like dawn of war 1 but please dont forget the lore, Dawn of war retribution campaing was so bad.
Lies
Tbh im just afraid they make dawn of war esports based like starcraft for example.
Im a huge fan of dawn of war and the warhammer40 Universe overall i was 7 when i played the 1st dawn of war but nvm that.
My Point is im just really afraid they ignore the good lore and voice acting, just to make the game more esports focused that would really kinda destroy the game for people like me that mostly played the game becuse of the good story but ofc i played alot of Multiplayer in dawn of war and i still do.
Just please relic if you Like the game Just pay Paul Dobson to keep voicing gabriel and dont ++heresy redacted++ it up...
SharKnight
Yes I do know about lore and my codex Daemon Hunters say what demon killer hammers do pretty clear. You are the one that seems pretty out of touch with the lore in this instance.
Heck, even in the Space marine movie they kill the daemon prince with a thunder hammer!
"and it wasnt even a daemon killing hammer" which are a lot more powerful and EXTREMELY rare.
It's not over my head, it's on the daemon hunters and grey knight codexes. If you knew about lore then you should know this pretty well. It is common knowledge.
http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Daemonhammer
Yes any potential skilled warrior could kill a daemon prince if he has a daemon killing hammer. The reason of why Gabriel couldnt take out Kyrass was because he was ganked by a bunch of Blood Letters that literally piled on him to stop him from moving so that Kyrass could incapacitate him. Without them Kyrass would had been toast.
