I've seen many threads about criticism of graphics and lore, this one is meant for issues of game play alone.
From the videos, i've seen i got a few concerns about the game play itself.
1) Elite units:
1.1) cost - there is a resource that is generated with time and there is no way to affect the rate of it's generation.
It leads to the situation when one player can summon a super elite, the opponent can summon his effectively negating one an other.
Having only 3 races even if there is high difference between the cost of different super elite units, it is likely 2 identical super units will face the field at the same time in a 2x2 or more game. I feel like this might be problematic, like how does this play out? Is the super unit just going to wipe out the armies already on the field and reset the combat?
Is super elite unit killable by none super elite units?
1.2) strategy/elite choices - In the videos developers explain that theoretically one can choose to go for early game elite units betting to finish the game before a super elite can be summoned.
while this might be possible in 1x1 situation i feel like assuming you can beat 2 players (2x2) before certain game time consistently is very risky. How do you prevent some units from becoming mandatory to take? You have only 3 spots for elite units if you end up having to take super elite all the time you are left with 2. if for some reason one more elite is required, the hero for example, you end up having just one elite unit spot to choose for. This might be a problem with replay-ability especially if only 3 races are present with low number of base units each.
2) skills - while i agree with the designer that having lots of 1 hit kill squad abilities is "cool" for the campaign, it is equally annoying to have your squads wiped out in multiplayer
by one ability that doesn't give you enough time to dodge or counter-play somehow.
eg. whirlwind - does it have some marker as to where it shoots or a delay? i don't see anything like this on the whirlwind video, seeing how many such abilities seem to exist in the game this needs to be handled somehow at least for the multiplayer.
Feel free to add points i've missed / suggest solutions.
