Saddly DoW 3 is looking more like a 40K chess game will total control & no random. With regards to DoWs pervious more realistic combat in 1 & 2 and also looking at Tabletop's gameplay favour. DoW 3 looks like it's doing a DoW 2 to it's past fans that enjoyed this.
DoW was alot more fun for me because it was a more realistic strategy game of warfare that included the randomness of elements that need to be dealt in real life. A commander doesn't have total control dealing with these random elements is part of the challenge with strategy & tactics is the inclusion of these elements.
This won't make DoW 3 a bad game but it won't delivery on this pervious gameplays elements that existed. It will be interesting to see with such a different change to gameplay if this will be a success with past fans or another DoW 2 fan backlash is incoming.
Objectively I'm still finding it interesting but my excitement is waning over the shift to less realistic warfare elements which with correctly provided information can be counted for, for more total control. It's feeling less strategy & more of a game about who has the better unit control as any mechanical control mistakes with cost the game more than strategic mistakes as control wins over strategy. More heavily about execution then allow strategic plans to win as they're little variables because of the total control over action always guarantees a out come.
