I'm not sure exactly where these servers are on the globe but it does not appear there is one that's in Australia. I can safely say that the lag is worse than it was when it was straight peer to peer.
Whether this is a routing issue with Telstra or not I don't quite know yet. But it would appear that I'm getting at least 350 to 400ms for the latency. I've never saw it this frequently pre-patch since the only time I'd get this is playing the guys in Russia (they'd be around 400-500ms).
It's all well and good that battle servers reduce the lag to those who have it in their backyard, but if people who are quite far away from them are constantly needing to catch up then you're at an immediate disadvantage over someone with substantially less latency. I don't understand why the latency value was removed in the first place when it could have been changed to the latency from yourself to the battle server. Then at least you could see when the lag was happening.
I'm not some dullard who goes "oh man my internet doesn't work, can someone fix my internet?" If there was by any chance a DNS name that I could query and then go to IP lookup to see where it is then I would and then determine what could be causing the latency issue.
I could fish through a netstat to find out what I'm connecting to but this might be easier.
