Seriously. No sarcasm. I genuinely am thrilled with the direction you're taking Dawn of War III. I love the return of base building. Teching up and base building is an integral part of RTS in my opinion and I'm so glad to see that return.
I love the aesthetic and graphical fidelity of this title. Has it lost some of the grunge and gritty realism of Dawn of War II, perhaps. But I much prefer the clean textures that aren't needlessly complex. This means that this game will run well on less powerful hardware. More accessibility is a good thing in my opinion. This does have some people crying "MOBA! MOBA!" Which I don't disagree with but that isn't a bad thing. I play a ton of League of Legends, yes yes call me a casual if you must, but so do a metric fuckton of other people. MOBAs can run on any machine. Which again, is a good thing. I'm sure there'll be graphics settings for you to crank to 11!
I have no idea where the "cartoony" complaints are coming from. Please tell me where this game is "cartoony" as I watch Jain Zar disembowel a squad of space marines leaving blood all over the ground.
And finally, the Starcraft snark. I can't tell how much of this is due to fanboy hatred. I remember back to even DoW2 there being debates over which is first and who stole what. For the record, WH40K 1e released in 1987. Starcraft released in 1998.
In terms of gameplay, aside from the resource collecting mechanics being different, the building construction and overall macro mechanics being different, the squad sizes being different, a cover system, albeit a limited one, and the implementation of hero units...then sure. DoW3 IS SC3 because Eldar vs Space Marines is vaguely similar to Terrans vs Protoss!??!
Uh no. I wonder if you people crying Starcraft actually even played Starcraft. These are different games.
The one thing I don't like is the removal of the DoW2, CoH, and CoH2 cover system. One of their arguments is that we're dealing with much larger armies but CoH2 armies got large too and I still microed my guys. Anyways, I don't like it but it's not going to ruin the game.
In conclusion, keep up the great work Relic! I'm really excited for this game after oddly being...not. Initially Company of Heroes 2 completely passed me by without a care. Then DoW3 was announced and I was shocked Relic existed after the THQ meltdown. Again, not sure how I missed this since CoH2 existed. But I picked up CoH2 and all it's DLC this holiday on Steam and loved it so now I'm even more excited for Dawn of War 3! I really hope this game does well. I want expansions son! I want Chaos, I want Tyranids, I want Necrons, I want Tau, I want Adepta Sororitas, I want Imperial Guard! I WANT IT ALL BABY! I want Dawn of War 3 to stand as the definitive Warhammer 40K experience!
