The fact that Relic have even recognised it is impressive.
Well, if you find this impressive.... In this case,what I find even more impressive is the fact that Soulstorm is still sold in steam store. Basically, users pay for something that doesn't really work. Cool? I think so too
All products have bugs in them. That's not a very helpful position to take, here.
The game itself is still playable; this bug, intermittent. I played Soulstorm the other week with no issues (with a mod too; Bugfix). So it's not a simple thing.
Well, this may all be true. But a statement would be nice, some communication.
Like:"We are still investigating." Or even:"This will not be fixed."
And I sincerely believe that as long as a game is being sold and income is being generated, known bugs should be fixed by whomever responsible. Age of the game isn't really sufficient argument here. Point is that people are buying this product and deserve to be treated like a customer. Or make it available for free.
Also, what kind of a signal is this to a loyal customer base (still playing a game 10+ years old), to have a game with known bugs and not fix them... Especially when they will want us to buy the new game soon.
Even though I also respect company policies and understand the difficulty of making controversial decisions. One never WANTS to let down a player base...
You're free to your beliefs, but as someone who works in software development, I can say that this simply isn't always possible. Every product on this kind of scale or complexity will have bugs, and will likely always have bugs. Maybe not as severe as the one that is affecting your gaming, but bugs nonetheless.
I've answered what I can, and I'll bow out here. Best of luck with this issue.
BTW, I suggested distributing -possibly in an update- that Bugfix mod you mentioned about 1.5 years ago. I was in touch with Kellie (Relic) for a while to work on the 'invisible games bug' (which got resolved, even if it took me campaigning for more than a year to raise attention). She told me Relic would be very interested in working with the community to make DoW SS a better game. One of the things I suggested was the Bugfix mod -developed by the SS community a long time ago- as it would deal with a lot of very serious and game breaking issues (I have a thread of known and abusable bugs on the steam forum).
But I digress...
The point is COMMUNICATION. Just be straight forward and honest. Leaving these legitimate and serious questions unanswered isn't really respectful to the community. If a definite decision has not been made, then at least tell us this is being discussed or, worst case scenario, not being discussed at all.
I sincerely believe people at Relic WANT to help us fix these issues but that time is a very costly thing, especially with the new game being released soon.
However, I'm sure the DoW community is willing and capable of helping fix these issues. Even though moderating this would be time consuming as well but maybe something you, GORB, as a volunteer, could manage and direct?
Hi, I'm one of the developers of the latest version of the bugfix mod, also known as New, during development many bugs were detected and fixed, however a lot of bugs can not be fixed by the mod, but there is information about them, it's known how to play them and I think it will not be a problem to fix them.
This problem is getting worse. Very hard to get any games going these days.
Please pick this up before people start leaving this game again.
Hi Kiborg, nice to meet you. If I remember correctly from the old forums, you have been an active member of this community for a long time? That bugfix mod is awesome! Especially if combined with the 'better AI mod'.Thank you for all your hard work.
If I remember correctly some bugs couldn't be fixed because they were hard coded?
I just cannot understand that this issue still hasn't received an official response by now. Not:"We are going to fix this", nor,"We are not going to fix this" (you should). No communication whatsoever from an official source in Relic that indicates you are taking this seriously. We've been asking for more than a year by now...
You have a game, that is being sold on the market, which doesn't have a working online multiplayer mode. At least not working satisfactory, since close to 3 games in 4 are not starting anymore or players getting dropped.
I just don't understand this from a cutomer relation point of view. Really, I just don't get it.
Why does Soulstorm have this problem? Why is the problem not there (yet) for online Dark Crusade games? Why is there still Gamespy code in the executable? Why does it appear to us that nobody is taking action or taking this issue seriously? We will probably buy your new version DoW 3 anyway but can we please still have the possibility to play the game we love and paid for?
How is this treatment of your loyal customer base compliant with this SEGA statement (straight from their website: http://www.sega.com/corporate):
"SEGA is growing and has recently completed an acquisition of Canada based Relic Entertainment Studio, famed for high quality strategy games including “Warhammer 40k Dawn of War” and the “Company of Heroes” series. We are determined to set new standards in interactive entertainment and are excited by the opportunity of welcoming such a talented development studio into the SEGA family."
What is that standard then? No support for games still being sold? I know we are lucky to have this game still online. We only ask for the possibility to actually play it too.
You asked for more info, we provided you with video's of the problem. There are many people WAITING to work with you to solve this problem. What do you need to get this serious issue fixed?
Lol, first game after reboot (after 'maintenance') bugged! 3v3 that didn't even start...
I really don't like getting this cynical. But seriously, what can we do... We have asked for so long and we asked nicely and civilised. We haven't even been given an answer...
Now you can even join games as a player, have your position overtaken by someone, even while the game is full, and still be present in the room. I could even chat! Look at the scrrenshot:
I feel very sorry to say this but we'll see where these kind of customer relation will get you in a few years time. People want to play with what they've paid for. If you can't guarantuee that, you will lose customers.
Where is our Dawn of War Soulstorm? Why are there so many bugs and why does not anyone fix them? What did we give our money for? If you can not fix these bugs yourself, hire me, I'll do everything, just give me the source codes.
; lag dialog settings
lagBeforeShow = 2
lagBeforeKick = 45
; max number of chat entries in lobby
max_chatlines = 900
This is something a friend of mine digged up. Is this something we could influence (change in the setup file) so we would have less bugged games? It's probably old Gamespy code he said: "but its likely that it won't do anything since much of the config options present in this file refer to old GameSpy stuff. It's very unlikely to change anything, most of the settings in this file seem to not be used or ss just overrides them. So prob same for the network settings."

1 of 3 to as high as half, if there are more than 6 players, isn't intermittent.

8 out of 9 games just dropped 1 or 2 players the past hour and a half... This is unplayable.
Please fix.
Nap
6 or 7 games did it in a row just now
Valiant
Still no solution, after 1+ year...
Not even a solid answer...
Relic, do you care about customer relations at all? I'm seriously beginning to wonder...
Valiant
Nothing?
No answer?
Only bugs?

Second game, dropped a player.
Valiant
No news yet?
Valiant
Ok, so answer me this then. Why did SS work on Gamespy just fine and now on Steam it doesn't at all??
KiBorg
I also, like many other Soulstorm fans, still hope you fix the bugs in the game.
Valiant
Again 6 online multiplayer games in a row that failed to start...
Argonian_Maid
Nobody cares about dow1 any longer. Sorry that it's me who has to tell you this, guys. Just take it.
KiBorg
No impose your point of view, if you are not interested in the fate of the Soulstorm, then you have nothing to do in this thread.
Nap
Games still dropping, sitting in lobby now waiting for a new game .... again.... anything with more than 4 players drops 1/2 the time or more.
Argonian_Maid
Well, sorry if truth hurts you that much. Just open your eyes.

In the W40k.ini file in soulstorm folder:
; network settings (in milliseconds)
connectTimeout = 30000
waitingForResponseTimeout = 20000
keepAliveSendRate = 1000
pingRate = 15000
enumerationUpdateTime = 1200

It's funny, it's the biggest thread on the board here and yet, there is one thing missing...
Relic devs!
