Hello everyone, I'll be trying to give my feedback on the closed beta. I am a Starcraft 2 player who reached Masters a couple of times and is currently casually playing on Diamond level in the Korean servers. I approached the game as objectively as possible but since preconceived notions are unavoidable, I have to admit I made my own. Anyway, here goes:
People harp on it a lot but base building is a big part of an RTS and I am really glad that it made its way back into DoW3. It brings opening and build diversity which adds a very substantial and strategic layer of depth to the gameplay. Figuring out and honing your build is one of my favorite things in playing RTS games and I am happy that there's going to be plenty of it in DoW3.
Unit Movement and Pathing
Unit movement seems alright but there are some occasions where one model gets stuck in a map prop. Unit pathing and unit responsiveness feels fine but it's really hard to judge because I play on a very high latency (I'm guessing around 300 ping). To those who keep parroting about DoW3 being 'Starcraft 3', you're wrong on unit movement alone. DoW 3 units moves a lot like CoH 2 units despite the simplified animations, the lack of dynamic movement, and the increased supply counts. Which makes it weird when sometimes I expect my ranged units to shoot while moving, haha. The best way to describe it is think CoH2 with a lot more units and moving your units around via blobbing. I do hope that there will be servers in my region (SEA). Otherwise, playing online is going to be like wading through mud!
