I am very new to this game, want to play online... I think...
Think to start with 3 vs 3, but I am afraid I disappoint my team members because I am a real ++heresy redacted++ at this point...
1 vs 1 seems a bit out of my league...
Any advice on this topic...

Well for one I would play vs hard bots to start. If you can't consistently beat the hard AI you shouldn't do online play if you are afraid of disappointing randoms. Assuming you can do that you are more then decent enough to just queue for team games and expect to lose the first few feeling out the maps and how team works (way different then 1v1). After you have played around 3 games you should be able to compete with most players in team games.

honestly go play 3v3, you either meet normal teammates and you will learn from them, watch them, remember where you lost or how did your team win
or
you will get bunch of ragers and leavers that will attempt some cheese tactic and you will spend whole time playing with bots anyway, and thats more than half of 3v3 quickmatches
This is nothing salty or insultive, its simply current state of this game, if you have some knowledge, if you eg. finished campaign or played some other rts game, DoW3 bots wont teach you anything, they are awfully awful.
Your only way how to get into it fast is to simply play 3v3, in 2v2 when one of the players is bad it ruins the game, 1v1 is instant loss if you are bad and often what you learn in 3v3 doesnt work here but in 3v3 there is more stuff happening and you can actually learn something, you have time to slowly explore the game because there are 2 players who can handle it without you.

Only way to get past ladder anxiety is to hit that search button and play a game. If you get stomped, save and watch the replay afterwards to see what the opponent did better than you. Then hit that search button again. Everyone get's it at some stage, I still remember as a kid being nervous to play Halo 3 online, as that was one of my first online games.
This is a fairly complex game to get your head around, but nothing beats experience playing against other people and then learning from it as an educational tool.
If you want some basic guides as a starting point before hopping in I can point you in the direction of some videos I made covering the fundamentals, if so hit me up and I'll send a private message.

Here's a pretty helpful video.

Most of the hate you might get in a 3vs3 online game is because you're doing nothing. Most people don't mind an inexperienced ally, so long as they still help. They realise everyone takes time to learn, so give them the manpower and they'll take the decisive action your team needs to win.
The problem is, all too often new players won't try to take map control, will just hide behind their turrets, and won't support their more experienced allies when they attempt to mount a defense or stage an offensive push - resulting in frustrating 2vs3 or even 1vs3 unwinnable scenarios for the experienced player (at which point, he'd legit be better off with an A.I. ally instead), which can result in his/her quite justified rage. It essentially forces them into a position where they are forced to wait for a defeat which they know is coming because the opponent realistically then has an active army that can be 2 or 3 times larger, and a vastly superior economy that they have no hope of keeping up with when they have one or two allies that refuse to actually play the game.
So to prevent this, just follow two simple rules:
1: If your allies are engaged with enemy at any point on the map, your troops should be helping his -or- you should be attacking the enemy somewhere else.
2: Your troops should never be sitting by idly while a fight is going on anywhere in the map.
Remember that, and you'll do fine.

You can play with me Frikit if you want to practice

Just play. You can't be worse than me and I only occasionally get yelled at.
Also, alternate 3v3 and 1v1. No team mates to upset in 1v1. You will be surprised to find yourself winning occasionally.

First, understand what you feel is normal, and ultra common. It isn't like you are alone in feeling those feels.
Second, play a couple games to get a feel against bots, but then just schedule a time to play X games. And just play the games. Knock them out, even if you feel like "ugh, that went poorly" or "ugh, I dont feel like it". Just do it. Pick a simple gameplan, stick to it, and just knock the games out. After a few weeks, I bet you start looking forward to playing.
You're going to worry, but that voice in your head shrinks as you ignore it day after day and knock the games out. Eventually you'll notice it, but realize that it has basically no influence over you any more.
Good luck broski.

Many people advice to start playing with bots, but personally I strongly advice against it. Maybe 2-3 matches if you want to have idea about some abilities or mechanics, but by jumping into 1v1 and even after several crushing defeats, you will learn A LOT more than with bot, which may give you very wrong idea of what to expect from live player.
Other than that, if we just had observer mode, that would be great place to build community, practice, have fun and try many different things. While we don't have it, just suck it up and play with randoms.
On team games, I'm personally staying away from them because I don't have people I can reliably play with, and with randoms it might be very frustrating experience for you. Rage quitters or people having no idea what they're doing won't teach you anything.
