The game is already half off on GMG and hasn't been out for a full month. That A: Makes me concerned that they must drop the price that much that quickly and B: kind of annoys me as I don't really think the preorder skins are worth 30 dollars. Feels like people that preordered got fucked now.

GMG usually discounts stock heavily that don't meet it's sales projections. It's not coming from Relic itself, it's a retailer wanting to get rid of excess copies.

To be fair, they need to cut the cost of the product on Steam and elsewhere, just to build the community back up and create some player buy in... Fast. I just don't see a patch as meeting community expectation and so many people are on the fringes of buying it because of how expensive it is compared to other top games.
Al_Ka_Pwn
as a customer that's not my problem is the thing. A loyal dawn of war supporter is out an extra 30 bucks. Which is ++heresy redacted++.
Al_Ka_Pwn
if it were GMG themselves selling the game that would be more believable but it's through an "authorized seller" they aren't holding copes on hand.

They still have keys on hand, I'm guessing. If you look Andromeda is also 50 percent off and that was released late March. I'm pretty sure once they have the keys they set their price and decide the margin. I'm assuming this works a lot like the brick and mortar stores used to work in a sense. For those unaware, copies shipped represents the number of copies a publisher has sold to a retailer to sell, based on projections. Once the copy is shipped it's basically the retailer's problem. This of course can vary, especially for brick and mortar stores as they sometimes have deals to buy back unsold copies. I'm guessing GMG bought them for whatever price and are now discounting them to move them quickly (for whatever reason). They can afford to do this because they can remain profitable on relatively thin margins. I doubt Sega has any real input in this pricing.
This sometimes even happens on steam as well. I remember reading something back when about publishers being unhappy about Steam retaining certain rights to discount games when they do sales, even if the publishers didn't want this. I'm not sure if it's actually been settled in the publishers favour.

Where are you seeing this 50% off reduction? Looking around GMG I can't seem to find it, looking around elsewhere doesn't seem to have turned up any mention of it either.
Chriskovo
Its less than a month out and its already discounted 50 percent? This is going like Battleborn did. Another moba hybrid game that sucks. If they just made a dawn1 remake this would not have happend.

Still says £38.99 for me. Is it region specific or am I perhaps just viewing a cached version of the page that's not updated?
edit: Guessing it's the former.

A Publisher dont have the control over the price tsg on retailers.
In germany, when Starcraft 2 comes out, amazon sold ot from start for 30€. Why? because marketing and to get more peolpe to amazon. That dorces most retailers into a price war and make Starcraft very cheap to buy.
This is just a marketing promotion and only avaible in us and canada.
DeathAttacker
I saw it in the UK also for 50% off yesterday. It was around £20. Looking now thought it doesn't seem to be there; maybe sold out.

Firstly, it was 45$ on release from GMG, so only 15$ off their original list price. Secondly, who got screwed? You got the game a month earlier than everyone else for your preorder. Not our fault you dont understand how the gaming industry works these days.
This statement is one of the most inaccurate things I have read on these forums. Battleborn did horribly because it came out around Overwatch, it wasn't a bad game, just not as good as OW. Now, points 2 and 3, what the actual ++heresy redacted++!? MOBA hybrid!? This game is far more RTS than MOBA, and thats just the one game mode, with a handful of maps. DOW1 remake, I hope your not serious, it was a great game, 13 years ago, now, its play style is old and stale. The only validity to this argument would be if DOW1 had 10's of thousands or people still playing it like Diablo 2, otherwise Relic / Sega would lose their asses on it, then people like you would still complain that it wasn't new enough, or innovative, or different.

Fun fact:
Literally ALL aaa games are getting a discount within a month after release recently.
AKaTTACK
Yup, and all games have a post release content schedule. If you can't handle bugs, imbalance, lack of content then I would strongly recommend you wait several months after any games release date to purchase, like I am doing.
Chriskovo
All I know about Battleborn is that I bought it half off and tried it out. Couldn't even get a multiplayer game going because no one was playing at that point. That seems to be the way this game is going too..
Actually you can see a 1000+still playing DOW1 if you looked. After 13 years that is insane. No one in recent times has done a good rts, everyone is just chasing the competitive twitch scene, which dow never was. Yes DOW1 you had a few abilities true but not to the insane levels that this current DOW3 game has. In dow1 Space Marines could survive a while, in this game just ++heresy redacted++ slaping them kills them they completely misrepresent the entire freeking Warhammer world!
I want fun for my rts games not competitive twitch bs. I wanted cinematic battles that you could just sit back and watch your people go in and appreciate the carnage. None of that exists in this DOW3 game you are too franticly trying to control everything at once. They got it so right in the first one and so wrong in this one. If they had just copied the mechanics of the first it wouldn't be turning into the fiasco that this game has turned into. People are already complaining about long wait times for games, so it is going like Battleborn. Only there isn't another great rts out now that you can accuse of sucking away the player base. All you can do is point at DOW3 mechanics as the reason of its failing.
Larkis
ah there you came from. So why not still play dow1 when its so much fun to you?

I love the Dawn of War series, but I'm going to wait on this one to get fixed, expanded, and deeply discounted before buying.
Cassper17
You can even buy a 15EUR voucher which was addedd to Asus (or maybe other manufacturer) HW pieces like motherboards, GPUs etc.
Honestly, that is kind of pricetag for the game.
If they want it to be a MOBA, than it should be F2P as LOL or DOTA2 are.
Draconix
Me too, but I will not wait longer than 1 year as possible. I can buy it on my birthday or other good occasions, especially when it gets cheaper. In the meantime I can hope that it would survive its hard moments and it gets fixed and expanded but I will buy it regardless.
