I think there's a pretty strong consensus among those that played both games that DoW2 is more of a moba than DoW3. I am going crazy with copypaste threads with the following memes: mobas, backflips, esports, dead game, soulstorm, 60 bucks (really PC games are still very good value for price entertainment wise).
1) Micro. If I leave a squad to guard a listening post and they start getting shot by unstealthed troops with a longer range, they don't try to engage and proceed to die. There needs to be some sort of stance mechanic like from DOW1 so I don't have to keep an eagle's eye on every unit. And it is a huge pain when the squads mingle when running, I've clicked the wrong squad many times, and reactions are key in this game (a bit too key if you ask me).
2) Scale. It is true you can get huge armies, but since they are insta-gibbed by anything and everything you tend to have smaller scraps regardless. I never feel "dug-in" unless I use the bubble cover, in which case my opponent can attack a different point or get obliterated since the bubble nullifies damage entirely until spent.
3) $. $60 US for an RTS so heavily focused on competitive play isn't exactly something that is going to have anywhere near the player base that free to play games will. I personally would never have gotten the game had it not been on sale (the gameplay stuff introduced down the road will make that price much easier to stomach, paying up front for future content always feels like a bit of a gamble).
Some scrub praise here:
1) Distinct. Each race feels really different, the orks with loot and banners, the eldar speed and teleports, space marine deep strikes and banners.
2) Power core. Getting cheesed the moment the game starts in DOW1 is the least fun I ever have. Commander units being time gated also means I always get to use them, which is also great! Escalation giving refunds for early deaths while stopping later also means you have some leeway early on and stops the late game spam fests from being eternal.
3) Most units having 1-2 abilities means it isn't just ram one wave against another, always stuff to do and being able to give your favourite units extra abilities from your loadout is great.
Overall:
Fun. Once a few more races are in it'll match up to the other DoWs for sure (go back and try vanilla DoW1 without the expansions and tell me that is a paragon of balance!). I enjoy the game, and having small skirmishes before a bigger battle is lots of fun, but for a game where resources and unit preservation are supposed to matter it sure is tough to keep squads around to reinforce. None of the units feel like hardened warriors, they get splattered like zerglings under anything beyond 1 squad vs 1 squad, and I find myself running any time I don't have more than my enemy. I bet if they can tune the numbers right the game will be even better.

You can like some things and dislike other things you want. You have right to it. But you should respect the fact that someone enjoys things you don't like. Like Dow3 for example. I enjoy it like other previous two, others like @MaxwellsDaemon, @RedDevilCG, @CANNED_F3TUS, @DaDokisinX, and others are enjoying it too. And you should respect that like true gamer does.
Acting as a victim will take you nowhere. It might look like fun once, but once somebody realizes that you may be very well believing your own delusion of being attacked because you like dow3, then you come only to further ridicule yourself.
No one is attacking you neither others for liking this game.
On a side note, that part when you speak of true gamers....,lol. Bro..., that brought a tear to my eye.
Ok then folks. We have a near dead game by just its very first month of life (a record to the series), and we have to like it as If nothing would have ever happened. DOW franchise is heading to oblivion commercially speaking which of course will mean no more dow in the future, and this is what we all want, because we are true gamers and behave as such, was it?
This is what you want?. A nothing like dow3?, a full $60 charge glitchy barebones game; neither rts nor moba; weird to say the least; clumsy mechanics; doctrines that literally defeat the very purpose of middle rts game strategies; boring flow; few upgrades; weird stealth positions; those maps; the core thing; three races..., etc wrong decisions that, as you will see once you abandon denial, have costed the franchise the current situation we are living.
Not even an extra race and some additions will lure people back into dow3. It is just not possible, and I'm sure devs are aware of this, which leads me to believe we may not be seeing even that new race that was supposed to come in the near future. Why to continue to give support and spend sources on a game nobody plays.
You Relic knew that fighting against mobas in their own territory with weird hybrids such as this game you made, lacking everything RTS needed, simplistic to the core and which target obviously is the public that it is, moba, was a risk not worth the try, and that rolling back to the roots of the games that were truly deep, good, and made with love such as your dow1, was the way to go even today. You could have very well posed a threat to the mighty Starcraft2, and in the end your decisions have brought us all here. Into no man's land.
Dow3 certainly makes dow2 feel like a must have. This should be something to reflect on.
You make alot of subjective claims.
DoW 3 isnt moba nore RTS....
LUL WHUT? Its more RTS then fracking DoW 2. Good joke is GUUD.
SOFAR every DoW that came after DoW 1 was shat on because it apperently is the holy grail and perfect in every way and people love their clusterfuck of a mod Ultimate apocalypse.
DoW 3 imo is a good game and people will eventually see it and once it gets more fleshed out and will be great.
There are alot of factors that play into why DoW 3 has a rocky start some of it self inflicted by relic but imo DoW 3 has the potential of becoming one of the best DoWs to date with its improvements that have been made. Pathing is 10 million times better. The game actually has a far better chance of being balanced compared to DoW 1 and 2. and the game feels fresh to me and im glad they didnt make a reskin that would have ended up just like the other DoW games.

I agree DoW 2 was very tactical and i loved how gritty it was. It was very immersive. They did excellent work on the campaign and i loved their race OSTs and the MP was still fun no matter how trolly it could get.
The DoW II campaign was one of the most ridiculous I've ever played. Mechanically, it couldn't have been more silly. On lower difficulty levels, it was brain-dead easy and on higher difficulties, it was still brain-dead easy because of the cheese retreat/revive mechanics. The actual gameplay was cool. The progression system was sweet, but the actual campaign design (particularly the boss fights) was pathetic.

Omg, the soundtracks for each race was absolutely incredible. I loved the one for the SM, but ++heresy redacted++, the Eldars soundtrack was just phenomenal.
I will say though, that DoW3's large scale battles are phenomal as well, and was really my biggest complaint in dow2 was the small army sizes overall.
I can certainly agree directional cover wouldn't have worked in dow3, but even adding craters and trenches would have been more than feasable (i think) as well for having variety, and even increasing immersion to some degree.

But that music in dow2 though... Mmmm. Lol
Yeah they need to ramp up their OST game for DoW 3 the music is almost non existent in DoW 3 matches.
Dont like these DOW3 forums, their weird and difficult to navigate. Probably alot of people saw that so avoided a MP game when the place where the community game looks weird :P Sounds stupid to say that, but people really are that simple with decision making, the littlest things like that can put them off.
So, we've got two big problems:
1) The game is not ready on release either in balance (I've known that Tacs are weak and the Eldars are op even before the game's release) and in design (icons are low-res) and in mechanics (hello, Paladin hiding in the bushes and being stunned by the Boyz)
2) Kat_RE... the rescponses on issues are so rare (lately there are more activity though) and most of the responses are not in the topics like "hey, the Eldar gates are teleporting each 10 seconds, what about fix?" but in topics like "oh, your game is awesome, could you please add more music and skins?"
Oh, by the way: in certain moment the number of players online couldn't beat the number in Soulstorm. And that means that the story of Dawn of War 3 is coming to the end.

Kat_Re is the best community manager relic ever had. this is true story.
The problem is game play design which devs have no idea how to fix it. yea, if they don't fix the core game play, it's end.

Yea, I see she replies now. But my major problem was as follows: when the 1st balance patch was yet to be released, I learned specific numeral\value information of the upcoming changes 1 day before the actual release of the patch. Not a week before, not 2 weeks. That's a real issue IMO. Either the developers do everything at the last moment before deadline or kate_re doesn't know what to do. And we're talking about such basic things, as mere numbers in changelogs for new patches, I'm not even comparing Lelics to the developers of H&H, who host streams once in two weeks to tell players about new changes.

I have been saying how to fix this game so many times in other posts. I'm not making this game look bad. It's bad game, if no one play it. look at the numbers. less than 900 online players at peak, less than 300 online players at low. Face the reality.

I know that there is low playercount, but whatever. I bought the game now and enjoying it! So, it is good, though unapprecciated game to me and that's what matters to me.
Sad is that however, that there won't be probably new race, but I'll live without that. Even if it is dead game now, its good however, that Relic is still working to this game.

I couldn't agree more. This is the truth.
My question is "Can devs change dow3 to genuine dow game?" If devs refuse to change dow3, it's end of dow series.

Numbers dont mean much look at DoW 2. It had craptastic numbers at launch and several other games had bad numbers at launch and ended up pretty good. DoW 3 in itself is a good game better than DoW 1 and 2 in many aspects. All you got is hurrr duurr its starcraft 2 although its nothing like SC 2 except for the game pace which is faster. Which in the end leaves me to believe you are part of the older audience. Which i understand a game can be a bit auick for some but that doesnt make the game Bad.

I'm old and I don't think the game is too quick, I also don't think unit lethality is too high. I'd say it's in line with DoW1 or CoH2 in terms of micro-requirement. DoW2 was also more unforgiving in that one slip could cost you the game almost. I think the people complaining that this game is too brutal have very different expectations to the reality of an RTS game.

craptastic numbers at launch in dow2? It had over 5000 online players, dow3 has less than 900 online players. Dow3 is almost dead game now. what the hell are you talking about? Numbers mean very much. If dow3 is better than dow1 and dow2, why people don't play it? wake up plz.
I agree that they should have dropped the DoW title. They could have used Dune IP and had Ordos, Atreides and Harkonnen and just made the same game with different skins. Then we wouldn't be assaulted by nostalgistas and we'd still get to play a quality rts.

Some scrub criticism here:

While I agree with everything you said (esp pathing) i still love DoW2 for its tactical play and gritty immersion.
See what I did here? I had a civil discussion.
There's no need to yell people. XD
Exzodium
Relic gambled a got exactly what they paid for.
CANNED_F3TUS
I agree DoW 2 was very tactical and i loved how gritty it was. It was very immersive. They did excellent work on the campaign and i loved their race OSTs and the MP was still fun no matter how trolly it could get.
RedDevilCG
The single player campaign was great in DoW2, with the map, wargear and corruption etc. Also, can anyone say Last Stand?
Still I like DoW 3 MP style better.
Amoc
The DoW II campaign was one of the most ridiculous I've ever played. Mechanically, it couldn't have been more silly. On lower difficulty levels, it was brain-dead easy and on higher difficulties, it was still brain-dead easy because of the cheese retreat/revive mechanics. The actual gameplay was cool. The progression system was sweet, but the actual campaign design (particularly the boss fights) was pathetic.
ThePendulum
Omg, the soundtracks for each race was absolutely incredible. I loved the one for the SM, but ++heresy redacted++, the Eldars soundtrack was just phenomenal.
I will say though, that DoW3's large scale battles are phenomal as well, and was really my biggest complaint in dow2 was the small army sizes overall.
I can certainly agree directional cover wouldn't have worked in dow3, but even adding craters and trenches would have been more than feasable (i think) as well for having variety, and even increasing immersion to some degree.
But that music in dow2 though... Mmmm. Lol
CANNED_F3TUS
Yeah they need to ramp up their OST game for DoW 3 the music is almost non existent in DoW 3 matches.
BridgetFisher
Dont like these DOW3 forums, their weird and difficult to navigate. Probably alot of people saw that so avoided a MP game when the place where the community game looks weird :P Sounds stupid to say that, but people really are that simple with decision making, the littlest things like that can put them off.
Gosu
This game need DoW soul..
This game is more SC2 than dow.
Rework gameplay.

Gosu
Kat_Re is the best community manager relic ever had. this is true story.
The problem is game play design which devs have no idea how to fix it. yea, if they don't fix the core game play, it's end.
12ozMouse
Yea, I see she replies now. But my major problem was as follows: when the 1st balance patch was yet to be released, I learned specific numeral\value information of the upcoming changes 1 day before the actual release of the patch. Not a week before, not 2 weeks. That's a real issue IMO. Either the developers do everything at the last moment before deadline or kate_re doesn't know what to do. And we're talking about such basic things, as mere numbers in changelogs for new patches, I'm not even comparing Lelics to the developers of H&H, who host streams once in two weeks to tell players about new changes.
CANNED_F3TUS
What is soo bad about this game because so far you just been giving us nothing solid? You just hate it thats that. Doesnt make it a bad game.
Gosu
I have been saying how to fix this game so many times in other posts. I'm not making this game look bad. It's bad game, if no one play it. look at the numbers. less than 900 online players at peak, less than 300 online players at low. Face the reality.
Draconix
I know that there is low playercount, but whatever. I bought the game now and enjoying it! So, it is good, though unapprecciated game to me and that's what matters to me.
Sad is that however, that there won't be probably new race, but I'll live without that. Even if it is dead game now, its good however, that Relic is still working to this game.
Gosu
I couldn't agree more. This is the truth.
My question is "Can devs change dow3 to genuine dow game?" If devs refuse to change dow3, it's end of dow series.
charlando
Long have I waited...
CANNED_F3TUS
Numbers dont mean much look at DoW 2. It had craptastic numbers at launch and several other games had bad numbers at launch and ended up pretty good. DoW 3 in itself is a good game better than DoW 1 and 2 in many aspects. All you got is hurrr duurr its starcraft 2 although its nothing like SC 2 except for the game pace which is faster. Which in the end leaves me to believe you are part of the older audience. Which i understand a game can be a bit auick for some but that doesnt make the game Bad.
Brichals
I'm old and I don't think the game is too quick, I also don't think unit lethality is too high. I'd say it's in line with DoW1 or CoH2 in terms of micro-requirement. DoW2 was also more unforgiving in that one slip could cost you the game almost. I think the people complaining that this game is too brutal have very different expectations to the reality of an RTS game.
Gosu

I remember queuing 15 minutes throughout Retributions lifecycle, most players were sp or last stand.
They even had a thing built in where you could alt tab during search then it reopened the window when you found a match.

DOW3 Problem is not the IP, But the gameplay.
