Is current Gamescom an expected some kind of announcement?
The most likely announcement would be the shutting down of the game servers before the end of the year.
CoH1 has considerably higher player numbers than DoW3, and both CoH1 and CoH2 sold more copies during the summer sale than DoW3. By any comparison you care to make, this game is failing, and hard.
Making DLC for a game like this is expensive; artwork, modelling, animation, sound studio time, and not to mention all the coding and balance work. With the game's current player base, it would be very difficult for SEGA to justify the expense. They will of course be running their own numbers and sales strategies, but I'd be surprised if a DLC faction is on the cards at this point. I think the most likely scenario is a few more balance patches with minor content additions (such as we've seen so far) as they can be made for relatively little expense, but so far there is nothing to suggest that a major DLC project such as a new faction or campaign will make SEGA a profit, or indeed even break even for them.
You're SEGA; would you sign off on an expansion for a game that has a player base smaller than the one your studio made ten years ago?
And there won't be any modding tools because GW do not want people messing around with their IP. Bear in mind that even Relic have only been able to release certain colour combinations for unit skins, as they must be 'in line' with what GW will allow.

Excuse me, but I don't think that Dow3 will be shut down ever, because, well, there aren't something like "Online" in title.
Of course there was Coh Online and cancelled Comand&Conquer F2P game, but outside of them I didn't heard of any mediocre RTS game being shut down after all. So even if there won't be support to Dow3, I don't think it will be shut down ever, because it isn't fully a Online Game, even if it needs Internet connection, but what I heard you can still play campaign and Custom Solo offline too, thought without progression.

That's not enough to convince me otherwise. SC2 has on other hand much more players than Dow1 and expansions combined. You can go there if you don't like Dow3.
I will stay and support Dow3, even if it has to be last of this franchise.

still better than what dawn of war 2 was doing in the same timeframe. All you're showing is that a game with vastly more content, a larger more popular modding community, and sold more over the last decade and a half, is basically more populated than a recently released game which has a tri-split playerbase.
Dawn of War II: Retribution - current 359 average 349.
The company of heroes comment btw is a weak platform. Of Course a WW2 game with mechanics that work with the genre is going to be better, FFS the OTHER dawn of war games never came close to company of heroes, does that mean they're failures too?
and both CoH1 and CoH2 sold more copies during the summer sale than DoW3
considering their combined bundle sale was a grand whopping total of 8 bucks I can see why.
While DoW1 and 2 have more population now you also forget they are very old games and its actually impressive people still play them today.
Meanwhile Dow3 is literally sinking with each day and Relic is still quite about the games future even 4 months after release.
When the moderator of the forum Gorb didn't play the game for a month with a maximum of 26 hours you can imagine how good the game is.
Lets be honest all here we all expected Relic to deliver something amazing we all went and bought the game just because of 2 names RELIC and DoW.
99% of us got disappointed and left after a few days and the forum is not literally full of ppl who are still angry about and people who will defend the game till death.
I don't think there is actually anything to talk about it on the forums and it shows the forum is also getting less active with each day.

Oh looki here we have another person throwing steam chart numbers around acting like it means something.
DoW player base is established (has had several expansions and mods) wont see much change or even increase in player numbers.
DoW 3. 4 months in 0 expansions and a rough start for various reasons. Does not have a established player base yet. Numbers are very likely to grow depending on Relics next move with the game. DoW 3 sadly to say hasnt even reached its end product yet. Where DoW SS has.
DoW SS wont grow any bigger where DoW 3 will because its currently supported. In a few months you and alot of other peeps are gonna feel stupid for even bringing up numbers.
You would have a point if DoW 3 had reached the end of its development and received all its expansions yet still had lower numbers than DoW SS. But thats not the case here is it. DoW 3 has yet to receive one Xpan. Come back with steam charts than please.

Why?
Relic's Battle Server technology powers MP for vDoW, WA, DC, SS, DoW II and DoW III. Why would DoW III be the only one to be removed from this list? You can hardly argue vDoW and WA have a large population and / or active sales figures.
While I understand why people can be pessimistic (even if I disagree), claims like this seem incredibly illogical.

No doubt those very same charts would be of interest if the game was doing supremely well, but of course that it is doing terribly means they are to be discarded as any kind of source.

No they would be of no real importance. Even if DoW 3 would have done well.
And whats your point now?
Whole Amerika is asleep and whole Europe is at work at current time, other places are irrelevant for population.
And when whole Amerika is awake and whole Europe is not at work, those numbers are barely doubling.
So, I ask you again: if you want DLC for this game, who the hell is going to buy it?
Several people will buy it. Your problem is that you see the steam chart as a absolute. You see 200 people you think only 200 are gonna buy it. Thats where your logic is flawed. You also gotta think of the people that are on the fence of buying it. Be it their favorite race is showing up. Or new features that cater to them are released etc etc. Some people are just waiting for balance to improve or the things mentioned above etc etc.

It's the chicken and the egg, though, isn't it?
Do people start playing the game because Relic released DLC for it, or do Relic release DLC for it because people started playing the game?
Like I say, based on the metrics - and I grant you that ~500 isn't going to be the total player base, as those aren't going to be the same ~500 people - I'd be surprised if SEGA thought there was any profit to be made by comissioning an expansion.

Yes it helps to have a big player base from the get go. You are right. But that does not factor in everything else. Word gets around quick in,the warhammer 40 k community and people, see things they like they will jump back in or we get new blood. It all depends.
