so sad NEWS for DOW3 .
Well, LeemanRuss, I understand you and I too think, that mod tools might be last from them, but who knows? Perhaps they will still continue to support Dow3 albeit in a less margin.
Of course with announcement of Age of Empires 4, I doubt that we will see expansion for Dow3, but oh well. We have to be happy with what we have.
Sorry, but no, i wont
Warhammer 40k is one of the best fiction out there and i love it, the horus heresy is probally one of the most beautifull Sci-fi book series out there, it has deep, beautifull races with TONS and TONS of lore and storyes as well as great characters (yvraine, eldrad, guilliman, mortarion, read also the fracture of biel tan and dark imperium, they are not also the most recent, but also wonderfull)
Tyranids? tau? DE? chaos?
If i wanted a game with 3 races with 4 units at best and less less less lore, i'd play starcraft for sure
A game with 3 races with a little roster do not ABSOLUTELY do the franchise justice
This is why i love 40k, is a insane large universe with deep lore
and i should be happy with a game with 3 races with so little unit roster and a useless campaign
sorry but no
And the most thing that made me mad is that i like the game, but i cant play the same match up for so long, and be honest, i bought it only for use eldar for kicking slaneesh's sorry ++heresy redacted++ (even if he/she likes it)
Your choice, then. But I won't stop playing this game, no matter what you will say.

Wow, I saw the game announced yesterday but didn't pay too much attention untill a friend told me its developed by Relic. I thought he was joking... I expected CoH3 next, but that will have to wait, it seems. I hope the game isn't the WindowsStore exclusive, that would be terrible.

I'm afraid, that it will probably WindowsStore exclusive.
By the way all, I guess that Relic is making Age of Empire 4 on Microsoft's order. Think back, Creative Assembly was co-developing Halo Wars 2 with 343 Industries, despite the fact that the former ( Creative Assembly) was belonging to Sega. So I think that Relic is still owned by Sega, but is making Age of Empires 4, which was ordered by Microsoft, since Essemble Studios does not exist anymore and there wasn't other studio owned by Microsoft, who might make new game in Age of Empires franchise. So that makes sense to me.
I can understand that, dow3 still feels like an unfinished game and I would love to see Relic try to finish the game.
Please give us a better UI that doesn't make us restart our game client and an observer mode.
After that maybe take a closer look at the balance, but that`s not the main priority.

Do you really think that is possible? DOW3 turned into such a ++heresy redacted++ show that doesn't that make your worry about AOE4? If they could fail so bad at Dawn than im sure as hell not going to preorder AOE4 until we see what they do with it. One kinda ties into the other and Relic ruined their reputation with this game.

DoW games have always been so different to each other, you cannot even ping what a "real DoW" is supposed to be, with any reliable accuracy.
Microsoft and Relic for a rts. Sounds good. Don't forget that if AoE was less popular, it comes from Microsoft them self. Closed a success story as Ensemble Studios, creat a small one with Robot entertaienement for online gaming and the launch of AoEO .... then throw the hot potato to Gas Powered Game. So yes, after that no more new on AoE.... just the AoE2 remastered that shows how strong the agesof name still be. So you can say MS has kill Ensemble studio, GPG for a part and destroy a bit the AoE series.
Here, just take time before throwing bad manner to Relic. Should be honor to work on AoE for them, but who has the hot potato again????? Not microsoft, cause they directly put Relic in the front line. So imagine the pressure, and then look to your behaviour. Yes DoW3 is different, but Relic never destroys any studio or licence. Dawn of War is special. Always trying to change the rules of RTS. Some hate, some love... that is all. On CnC4, EA jsut kills the game. No one loves this game. and the others hate . Only haters, dislike, hate ... and a whole dev team fired. EA is the worst company for that.
So let Relic does their job. Trust them. AoE is unique with classical gameplay. ANd 10 millions of players or more around the world looking for this game.
That say : Only one advice : listen to feedback. Specially if all voices say the same, even if it is not what you think first. AoE is AoE!
@frumpylumps said:

Like in AoE3 with the native Warchiefs? That game even had a doctrine system, which required grinding the Hometown levels to unlock all options, creeps with OP treasures that unbalanced the game if you picked up the right ones, an infinite resouce locations that only required you to build a Trade Post on them.
And even then, that game still has a dedicated community to this day.
I will trust on Relic.
You arent blizzard size studio.you cant be working on 2 games at once.So that means you abandoned us you loyal fanbase.Im your fan since 13 years, I like dow3 and was defending it on forums and now that slap to face? You were my top developers but if my worries will become true you will join "avoid like a plauqe" dev group.
I dont care AOE.I played warcraft, starcraft, empire at war, battle for midsle Earth, coh and dow and so on but no AOE.
It would make sence that AoE 4 is set in WW1 or WW2.
And Relic is known for Company of Heros and Dawn of War.
So if AoE 4 is in some World War and Relic is doing a good Job at it, maybe they also will making AoE 5 which is probably set in the Future.
And Dawn of War is an future game, so its making sence to me

DoW games have always been so different to each other, you cannot even ping what a "real DoW" is supposed to be, with any reliable accuracy.
DoW I and II are gritty, have units which can and need to reinforce and are not expendable, cover, sync kills, hero units which are powerfull but don't outshine other units etc.
Something DoWIII turned into a colorfull send your identical looking troops to die by the thousands while heroes which are 3 times bigger then they should be jump around like wind up toys and turned maps into copies of Summoner's Rift.
They were making their own brand of games which with each iteration added more strategic levels: cover, smoke, off-maps, facing and positioning, reinforcing and so on. And with DoW3 they just threw it out the window and than shat on it. And to put icing on the cake also called Warhammer 40k nonsensical garbage so who cares if they don't follow lore? There are yellow supermen there and pipe organ looking artillery tanks so no problem if they make a mess of established lore.
I mean this cannot be so bad for us. If they make more money with this they will have more ressources to put into dow3. Sure this can be wishfull thinking as they also could start to leave dow behind and focus on their other titles.
Still we are their customers too and if they dont want to end up with a bad reputation they shouldnt just let dow3 die. Alot of people bought it, they surely made some profit and im sure they would like to make some more profit with it with dlcs or expansions.

Gritty is an aesthetic choice, not a game play one. Squads in DoW3 are vital, losing a few at the wrong time will cost you the game. You want gritty? Squad member dying brutally quick is far more gritty, brutal, and realistic, than the tanking they did in DoW1 and 2, specially considering the nature of 40K weaponry.
Both DoW1 and DoW2 play completely different, there is not DoW legacy except being in Warhammer 40K, and the main campaign being about the Blood Ravens.

Both DoW1 and DoW2 play completely different, there is not DoW legacy except being in Warhammer 40K, and the main campaign being about the Blood Ravens.
I did not mention gritty being aesthetic or gameplay choice. Both are part of the game. Both were chosen by Relic.
And gritty is the way to go for Wh40k. As it should be for AoE as well or should I expect Richard the Lionheart to be twice as large as his knights and backflip around in golden armor? Or whichever part of history they will cover... Maybe Redcoats guns will glow if they fire fast? Or Catapults will fire straight into the air so they can all drop the same like off map arty? Or will Samurai get a shield cause of their ''Battle Focus''?
Astartes wear armour heavier than most tanks. Eldar armour is also a form of power armour and couple it with their speed, psychic power and trickery. Orks even without any armor can eat a few bolts and keep on going. Also a Chapter has 1000 marines max, Eldar are almost extinct and them both losing hundreds per battle is what? Ok? In DoW 1 and 2 losses were lesser for those (unless if they were improperly used) and losing a whole squad or two would hurt a lot and probably cripple you. Almost the same as in Tabletop where a couple of units lost either means that end of the game is quite near or you are horribly losing. Here? Losing five squads is not that big of a problem except in first two minutes of the game but that is what you get when comeback mechanics aren't working properly ...
DoW2 was just a little more tactics and less strategy than DoW1. Units still worked more or less the same, tactics were almost the same. Take points on the map, fortify them, push the enemy back. In DoW3 you are destroying power cores and turrets which have no explanation in the lore. Are they Necron Tech? They don't look like they are. They are also not Eldar made nor Imperial nor Orkish. Maybe some unknown species but that would mean all battles are on some planet or close knit group of worlds which is just dumb. Should I expect a power core inside an Indian village in AoE as well?
So even based on COH2/DOW2, Relic did so far just deliver some "graphics" and units did have some abilities, but not actually gameplay content.
AoE Demands more than simply Graphics.
Let's look at the Technical Standards of the RTS like AoE2 before year 2000.
-Wild life that you can hunt for food
-Change Population Size.
-Change game speed. (ingame)
-Set game speed for the match
-Reveal map yes/no
-Set Age of the game
-Set Starting options how much things you have , like a lot workers and castle.
-How Achieving Victory
Age of Empires 1
Building and defending a Wonder for 2000 years (5 minutes).
Military conquest.
Acquiring and holding all Ruins on the map for 2000 years.
Obtaining and holding all Artifacts on the map for 2000 years.
Age of Empires II
Building and defending a Wonder for 200 years (5 minutes).
Military conquest.
Capturing and holding all Relics on the map for 200 years (5 minutes).
Killing the King (only in the Regicide game mode).
Take control of the Monument at the middle of the map for 550 years (approximately 9 minutes) (only in the King of the Hill game mode)
Walls + Gates , well somehow was in DOW2 campaign.
And now comes the big things. Naval battles, how ?
How can Relic do Naval Battles ? You have 1 year to design from nothing naval battles.
= Water Physics and so on stuff.
By the way biggest issue would be in my opinion,
for Relic to understand what the fans form AoE Series want to see.
