You know what would be pretty cool? If instead of having Grey Knights we could have a unit of Librarian codiciers!
Think about it, what the grey knights have in abilities and in equipment the Librarians also have it. They could replace grey knights with them and so make the Blood Ravens even fluffier or just represent the psychic force of your chapter in multiplayer.
They are similar in which; They use a devastating psychic attack, they have force weapons and they could have furious charge as a result of their psychic nature.
what do you think?

++heresy redacted++ Grey Knights. Plot device faction.
Librarians are badass, just look at this fucker:
Terminator power armor? Check.
Rune sword power weapon? Check.
++heresy redacted++ lightning shooting out of fingertips? Check.
Angry snarl as if he's constantly mentally punching a bear in the face? Check, ++heresy redacted++ check.

I mean look at the massive religious tome bolted to his hip. He is clearly a man of conviction.

They could give me an Inquisitorial Monkey with a Banana-gun as long as they don't, repeat DON'T put the ++heresy redacted++ aluminum trash cans in the game. So yea, give me all the Librarians, plus they would make sense lore wise considering these are the Blood Ravens.
ValKor01
Well unless there is Chaos in DoW3 theres not really a point in having GK as they are mostly specialists in dealing with Chaos or more specifically Demons.
GK weren't in DoW2 except for Mods, you only got a squad in DoW1 and I have not heard of any news on GK being in DoW3.
As for Librarian Codiciers, we had librarians in both DoW1 and 2, Codicier is just a rank and with that rank:
So will we have them standing about Evaluating reports? Just kidding
I would like to see Librarians represented again, I just dont see why there would be a need to "replace" any other unit type we could have or why specifically it should be a potential future GK unit at that.
grigdusher
i don't think we are supposed to have grey knight in dow 3.
Fadlan
Guys we can have both, remember this choose 3 elite units stuff? Well everyone will be happy.
SharKnight
But they would not be grey knights, they would be librarians. Swap the unit with another basically that has the same function and same abilities. The Blood Ravens are common for having loads of librarians and having squads of them has not been unheard of.
And yes this is without counting your main Librarian hero which would be an Epistolary in this case.
ValKor01
I wasn't trying to say they would be GK, we didn't have them in DoW2 so I assume you are basing this off the GK we got in DoW1? I am not against that, the GK felt a bit tacked on in DoW1 and a group of librarians would probably fit better.
You are right, the Blood Ravens are meant to have more psykers so yeah, suits the theme of them, I wasn't trying to shoot down the idea. Sounds like a good one but I wasnt sure what it was you were wanting that would make it different from having just the singular Librarian. I think the confusion for me stems from the fact the thread is entitled with "conclave" (just noticing this) but the post says "codiciers" so I addressed codiciers and not conclave.
Raindrop
Would be nice to see them as a elite unit.
appiah4
Ironically enough that's not terminator armor (it's power armor), that's not a rune sword power weapon (it's a force sword) and that's not lightning (it's psychic energy from a smite). Total fail.

This is probably why you have so few friends
Creature
Me too! I am hoping they don't wait too long before revealing some more of the elite units, so we can begin theorizing possible combos and play styles.
Ellie
it would be a ++heresy redacted++ shame if they didnt put a librarian into the game with all those snazzy particle effects.
Creature
I must confess that a lot of my choices on faction and hero, etc, have much less to do with strategy than they do with my perception of what is cool. It's therefore pretty much a given that if the Predator tank is in, I will be using that whether it works or not. Terminator squads are pretty much a given too. The Imperial Knight looks awesome. I'm wondering how useful it will actually be since it takes so many elite points and loudly announces everything it does with very noticeable effects and movements. But it's so awesome I'm sure I'll use it anyway.
Creature
It would be nice if this game allows roles like that in team games similar to how DoW2 did, for example, have one ally go Tech Marine and he can install some cover or turrets in key locations, and have another ally go for the more mobile Force Commander. With the ability to select three elites, these roles could in theory be even more defined and specialized. Or, you could go Tech Marine, Apothecary, and force commander. Not sure why one would do that, but exciting to think such a thing could at least be an option.

Since you're a WC3 player, what's your opinion on having the hero picks before the game instead of from a building inside the game?
SharKnight
I used to be an Apoth player in DOW2. "I would still be if I had a PC thought hahaha" Or Reaver Alpha with tyranids, until it got incredibly nerfed.
I like to play the supports more than the lead hero. What they did to the apothecary was a true insult, people always whine when they whoop them with one thing only to continue to be whooped by another and thus the nerf wheel continues. Apothecary wasnt OP, he was pretty good. But people whine and whine and they ruin everything that it's fun.
Granted there is always OP stuff that needs to be put on line, but nerfing to the point of being useless? That is why I stopped playing Blizzard games.
Creature
I know you asked him and not me, but I played WC3 a fair bit (though I was awful at it) and have some opinions.
I think it will allow some additional variation in the first few minutes of the early game. If you KNOW your opponent did or did not pick elite units designed for rushing, that will change your build order. Both sides will change their build order according to those three picks they see on the opening screen. "Ok, he looks to be going for armored units, so I should beeline for las cannon."
Typically, only a few opening build orders are followed, mostly because the threat of a rush is unknown. You have to have a build order that can potentially handle that unknown. This leads to there being less variety to strategies because you want to follow the best build order to adapt suddenly to the unexpected.
The downside is that, I see rushes being almost a foolish thing now. Your opponent should be able to see that coming and prepare for it. But Relic has never been very rush friendly so perhaps that is intentional.
Another downside is that it reduces the element of surprise significantly, which is an interesting factor.

@Bigamo
Relic have said that they want to have a lot of different elite picks, so it will be interesting to see if there is some kind of meta game with pick tiers. Tbh I think this feature will be moot after the metagame develops slightly and get's min/maxed. Hopefully we don't get any coin flip counters.
Creature
Yes, that's my concern as well. It would be good if they can make most of them viable, but I'm sort of suspecting the same, and seeing them before the match might in the end make it even worse because the element of surprise is gone, so there is even less reason to use a less optimal pick.
reach
@Creature Honestly if each race has more than one viable hero pick per matchup it will be a miracle.
Perhaps I am too skeptical/pessimistic.
But the worst out come would be a stone-paper-scissors rotation of several picks for each side. But we will see how they want to approach this. I suppose you could always mod heros out of the game.
Bezagron
Not at me direly but I feel the elite units chosen will decide what possible strategies & tactics you'll have with your chosen army as they'll play as a focal point for those strategies. Largely they will also allow same faction battles to play out differently as unless each side chosen the exact same elites they'll also have different strategies. Also with regard to the base line units different elites might also provide different line units, wargear & upgrade options, further differentiating the same faction armies. So much is not known yet about the elite unit system.
Ellie
I think it'll all still depend on what sort of strategy the player is going for. like, in dow 2, you normally see action from all 3 commanders in every race, especially space marines. each commander has a different role and sorta creates your strategy, a force commander user will probably be very aggressive, while a techmarine will be more defensive. hopefully this will carry over to this game, and you can pick up elite units that might suit x playstyle if you like it. im also hoping that 90% of the units arent locked behind elite points...I would like to normally make things like terminators in the game as well as get them for elite points.
