I'm a little annoyed that this is such a sticking point for so many people. As if one animation is all it takes for DOW3 to fail some imaginary purity test.
On the other hand, it does look a bit goofy. So what does the community think would fix this problem? Bare in mind, any new animation must maintain the mechanics. Gabe has to be on-screen and must take the same amount of time to complete the animation.

he teleports in the air, he falls with his huge terminator armor weight and his thunder hammer.

It's not just the Animation itself/alone. There are a lot of other animations that look more than just a bit off ... many of the walking and firering animations look very ... wobbly/wonky ? I personally have a huge problem with the poses some of the space marines strike (for example gabriel or the assault marines, just take a look in the army painter) ... for me it represents a form of cheesy and very cliché heroism that has no place in 40k. Gabriels jumping animation is only the strongest symptom and part of a problem wich is much larger than just this one symptom.
In addition the whole anger around gabriel comes down to more than just animations.
There were a lot of very strong complaints against the animations (gabriel in particular) from the moment the first footage was available . The reaction from relic was to laugh about it and try to explain it by saying the universe is completely over the top etc. which resulted in even more frustration. The way relic handeld the criticism is as much part of the anger and frustration as the animation/animations itself. You don't laugh at potential customers for voicing concerns, no matter how small the concern might be and in addition try to marginalise or even ridicule the concern.
And while changing the jumping animation of garbiel would by no means have solved the whole problem or stopped everyone from complaining, it would have been been a step into the right direction and to be honest, the logical reacion here ... the actual reaction from relic baffles me to this day ...
How many people have a problem with this particular animtion ? How many people do you think would have had a problem with a more realistic animation involving teleportation ? Why not go with the solution a lot more people can accept, instead laugh about a part of their community ? The design of DoW III is actually riddled with design choices like this.

I am so into this idea! It just doesn't allow Gabe to stay on the screen. He can't take damage mid-teleport. It would look so cool to see him slam down out of teleport.

Jump -> overhead slam with teleport:
7 sec
Gabe charges his hammer while it's above his head then he teleports and immediately strikes down the target.
360 hammer sweep:
18 sec
Plus make him use both hands when he swings his hammer with normal attacks.
Also when he runs he makes a weird jump periodically, remove that.
Edit: tried to put time stamps but failed miserably.

I'm bringing it back. Maybe there are some new ideas. There are still people complaining about it.

Yeah I think the criticism for flipping Gabe is misunderstood. For the critics, it's one of the more obvious symptoms of wider issues with the game. The game's fans, however, focus on it as as a nitpicking complaint that gets far more attention than it deserves.
The issue is that fixing Flipping-Gabe will have minimal impact on player satisfaction. I would be treating the symptom of other problems, rather than addressing the problems themselves.

And still to this day. Think retreat wouldnt be even needed.
All they gotta do is reduce the whole CC nuke pile the game is. When there is no CCs shenaniges and nukes going off i have absolutly no issue with micro retreating my army. Because unlike DoW 1 and 2
DoW 3 units are far more responsive and pathing has been vastly improved.
Retreat button just screams casualization especially when a game doesnt even need it.
Katitof
It would.
That's why its not in game.
You're meant to lose squads, relic said so themselves.
TokyoDream
This would look amazing but it breaks the mechanics. There's no way that would take as long as the current animation unless he is teleporting, and therefore invincible, for an extended time.
Katitof
Its RTS game.
Units tend to die in them, especially in the ones where you can get dozens of units.
We no longer have only 4-6 squads on field and only that, we no longer have vet, there is not a singular logical reason why mechanic that isn't fit for that scale should be here.
Unit preservation is ALWAYS important, but in previous DoWs it was mandatory.

Gabe represents a man who has faced more than the mere low skill xbox plebs who dwell on this forum.
He's overall a great unit with good abilities, and that reflects because he's fought in so many battles and came out alive.
TokyoDream
He could still be attacked in CC while it's channeling, but he can't when he's jumping. It might not make that much of a difference. Relic could even make him immune to CC while teleport is channeling. It's kind of unintuitive though. Generally, I'm in favor of teleporting just because it would look really cool to see him come out of teleport and slam his hammer down an instant later. If someone did that to me, I'd be be stunned too.
This was just as common in DOW1 and at least replacing units is more difficult in DOW3, which I think adds a nice bit of strategy. This is just something that was sacrificed when Relic decided not to make a small scale tactical game like DOW2. I'm fine with that.
CANNED_F3TUS
You should not sacrifice units in any RTS game. Maybe in future patches they will make units tougher and remove. Unit refund. Which i think was implimented cause of the casuals. Thats when unit preservation will really show itself.
CANNED_F3TUS
It was and i just explained one of the main, reasons of unit deaths. Insane CC and nukes. If these werent so overbloated retreating manually would be pretty simple.
DoW 3 doesnt need a retreat band aid mechanic especially once relic has fixed some of the issues with the game. You dont see people crying for a retreat mechanic in SC 2. They do it all manually. Its something called micro. You click on a unit and than move them away from danger.

I don't think at this point anyone seriously gives a ++heresy redacted++ about Gabes' flip animation. Yeah, I still cringe every time I see it, but there are MUCH more pressing issues, and time when they needed to redo it long passed. In either case, if they didn't back then, there's no chance they'll do it now.
This suggestion with teleport instead of somersault sounds amazing though, especially with some smoking effects on landing or model (like Termies leaving smoking trail and mini-craters on TP), and to be honest, I don't think that couple of frames of missing model would break balance or mechanics so hard. It would barely make any difference in fact, but again, considering all the ruckus around this game, it's unrealistic to even consider this rework IMO.
Katitof
Its 40k.
Meaningless death of so many men are the foundation of IP and no single faction is spared here.
Nothing wrong here.
They are supposed to be - you can't have huge armies, where units never die.
CANNED_F3TUS
Honestly even in DoW 1 and 2 units died left and right. It was just the squad as a whole would survive. I think thats what nassir is all hung up on.... Now that often squads dont make it back it makes nassir want to cry.
TokyoDream
Well I think we can conclude that teleporting Gabe is the community favorite. Give the teleportation a bit of "channeling" time so it takes the same amount of time as jumping. I'd like him to jump just before he teleports, then slam his hammer a split second after he teleports.
It's not perfect. Gabe will still be vulnerable to CC and your opponent won't be able to predict where he teleports. I can't think of a better idea though. Maybe Relic could let players choose between old and new animations. You hear that Relic? This is our best idea.
esleg
I still have trouble finding out what's going on here.
Dandalus
Just a teleport at desired place, crushing everything on spot, no need teleporting in the air, like Chaos Rising campaign terminator upgraded teleport. He won't take damage while teleporting however, a slightly buff which fits good.
