Game Director on an exciting unannounced strategy game, the kind that Relic Entertainment does best! Currently working with an excellent team to build a creative vision, game pillars and the feature set. Lots of engaging, fun work to be done and great people to do it with.
This year, we finished off Dawn of War III, the next chapter in the excellent franchise. Was the Lead Campaign Designer on the game as well as driving forward the Enemy Experience for both SP & MP. Working with a bunch of really talented devs, the project was a great learning experience and I'm proud of what we shipped.
So we know that relic announce age of empires IV and recently send coh 3 survey. We know that Quinn Duffy is game director for coh franchise and aoe 4. So is Brent Disbrow new game director of DoW franchise and relic working on unnanounced dow 3 expansion?

Not sure if this is Dow3 expansion, it might be a Coh3 or Dow4. If yes, then it sucks for me because I really wanted a Dow3 expansion after all. Not to mention that would be a rather desperate move from Relic to abandon Dow3 without expansion for another project. That would be a waste of potential.
Still, its good to see Relic still there. I will gladly see whats the new project aside AoE4, but, as I said, I'm not sure 100%, if this is a expansion for Dow3. But would be very nice to me, if would be it.

This better be a DLC and not a full priced game that no one will buy.

I'm just trying to be patient and wait for Relic to tell us what's happening. Speculating only makes it harder. I do appreciate @Valeran digging this up though. It's definitely a level deeper than I'm willing to dig.

Relic is working on Age of Empires 4 at the moment. I still pray there are more contents for Dawn of war 3, though. If not, I would like to see GW find another competent game developer to lend their Warhammer 40k franchise to. Battlefleet Gothic kicks ++heresy redacted++, but Deathwing Space Hulk and Eternal Crusade suck balls.
CANNED_F3TUS
DoW 4 is very unlikely.
CANNED_F3TUS
Battlefleet gothic was good. Just wish it didnt die off so fast cause of the bad multiplayer.
Hoping for BFG 2 without all the poorly implimented gimmicky ability spam.
Amoc
Battlefleet Gothic sucked. If you dug deep enough, there was a cool game somewhere under the mess of poor design decisions and bad execution, but it wasn't a good game on the balance. I really wanted to like it, but the flaws were too raw and gaping. Every once and awhile I feel like loading it up still because the idea of it appeals so much to me...then I remember how poorly it played.
Gorb
Hey folks, this thread isn't about Battlefleet Gothic. It's fine to use it as an example, it's not fine to start derailing the thread with opinions about a completely unrelated game.

Regarding how many changes from DoW3 people are requiring, they may as well scrap the whole thing and make DoW4 with a new lead. CA didn't have any issues making TW WH2, and it doesn't look that much different in a lot of aspects, not to mention it was released so soon after the original game.
Draconix
But abandoning Dow3 without a expansion for another project, just because that people wanted would be called a passion? For me, no, that would be rather a desperate move from Relic and waste of potential, if they would do that.
Just because CA didn't had issue making TW WH2, doesn't that mean that Relic can do same to Dow franchise. Beside Total War WH1 gotted many DLC before announcement of TW WH2, and sequel was in CA's roadmap as well.
On other hand what I learned, Relic was stating that there might be a meaty expansion for Dow3, but I'm not sure if it is still in plans. Still I would prefer them to make even at least single expansion for that game first before they move on to make Dow4.
CANNED_F3TUS
TW WH is just a reskin though. Almost every TW plays the same. Meaning that its a easier game to produce than an absolutly new game that plays differently.
Also WH 2 was just an expansion of 1 they didnt do too much with it except add factions. Expand the map and alot of extras (which are welcome btw) but it wasnt a brand new game. They kind of mucked up on some things as well like releasing Norsca as a preorder special for WH 1 and they are not even playable yet in 2 due to issues!
Renner
That's the point, WH2 was mostly just an expansion. But if Relic want's to make a lot of dissatisfied people happy, the changes may be severe, to the point that it could be a whole new title. How to have a game with the MP so much different, comparing to its SP campaign. Unless they change that one as well with some new mechanics, but then you can just make a whole new game. Either using DoW3 as a background, or some of its earlier experimental builds, before it was turned into this (remember, internally, DoW3 at Relic is called DoW III 3.0).

I'm pretty sure TW:W1 Had a much better reception than DoW3 did, it also came with a lot of dlc so of course they'd make a second, I mean they literally stated they plan on making a trilogy too.
CANNED_F3TUS
Yeah they probabably tried alot of approaches and they all didnt pan out. They all could have been vastly similiar for all we know. Or they might have tried to create a DoW 2 abomination all over again. Now we have what we got. And it isnt to shabby. Could it be better? Yeah. But it culd have been worse. There is absolutly no need to make a whole new title cause there is alot of things that are fixable and things that can be improved. And in regards to singleplayer campaign. They either dont do anything with it (cause DoW 3 is pvp focused) or add a coop game mode. Another cheep option could be meta map with cheep narrative like Dark crusade. Critics are gonna give relic ++heresy redacted++ but nobody ultimatly cared cause thats what happened with soulstorm. It was a huge copy paste game where you payed full price for 2 races and a copy pasta campaign.
Renner
That too... You may notice by now that they didn't even introduce paid DLCs... Its looking grim even by the 40k standards.
Amoc
I think it's going to boil down to numbers and money.
CANNED_F3TUS
I aint to worried about that. It took DoW 2 a while as well to receive paid DLC. And they were bankrupt. Still they supported DoW 2 as much as they could
Hibou
They were silent for 2 weeks, they didnt change balance for 2 months and you thinking about expansion ?
Amoc
I still think (and hope) that the long-term plan is to start working on a new version of the game. I think Relic realized back in October or early Nov that this version of DOW wasn't what folks were looking for. I'd guess that the numbers aren't there for them to be investing heavily in further supporting it.
I'd way rather see a reworked "expansion" or DoW IV under a very different design scheme.
Amoc
lol that's cheeky.
TokyoDream
That was me. It would be a cheeky nod to the community and would dispel a lot of the gloom surrounding DOW3. Or they could roll a lot of the content for DOW3 into a less revolutionary DOW4. It might make sense for them to get away from the DOW3 name but part of me doesn't like it. I'd like Relic to turn the tide of battle and bring glory to DOW3. It's just the 40K thing to do.
CANNED_F3TUS
Thats hilarious that you think people will be more likely to buy the game just if they crayoned out the 3 and put a 4 next to scribbled out 3. It will still have the same graphics and engine etc etc. So why not just improve DoW 3 and relaunch with more mechanics and content.
CANNED_F3TUS
THE GYPSY GURU HAS SPOKEN. Lmao. Lets be honest here. In the last 6 months they didnt really do any big changes unless you consider elite skins ahni and 3 new elites (that probably already existed before development) as big changes. So we cant really say they did everything. I think they can still do alot with the game.
About brent pulling out. If that happens you can say GG and no more DoW games in the future. You would be ok with that though.
charlando
It could provide some symbolic validation for some of the "fanbase" that feels betrayed
