Hi guys, if you remember DOW 1 did not have Tyranids in the official game software and DOW2 did not have an official Tau, Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle faction. So... is this going to happen for DOW3 or can we expect all the races to be present in the final content for DOW3?

Nobody knows what we'll get, if anything. Really I think it depends on if Relic continue the series and if it becomes more widely favoured by the community. I didn't used to keep tabs on what was going on with Relic but perhaps if it wasn't for THQ dying they would have continued the DoW 2 series with more expansions. I hope we do get more expansions and factions for DoW3, but to be honest I don't see the series doing well enough to get lots of content.

if we are supposed to get any new race, I think we will first get superhumans like necrons or CSM, in my theory they will be easier to copy, you dont need to mess with balance for 15man IG squads or super cheap 5 man squads, you just take same standard 5 man squad orks,sm,eldar have and repaint them ..
and maybe we will get just skins or some random units from other factions, similar to necrons or tau in DoW2

And no one will ever tell the difference!
If you pay a really close attention, you'll notice these are actually 2 different models

I think Tyranids would be really neat with DoW3's design, but I doubt they will happen. They were extremely unpopular in DoW2 once they weren't ridiculously overpowered.

story time yaay
I introduced one of my friends to soulstorm when it started, he never saw wh40k universe before and before he fully grasped it the race rooster was basically: Space marines, emo space marines, space elves, emo space elves, humans, orks, female space marines, green space marines and anime space marines ...
thats why I am fighting against csm as a first race, for casul people they look way too similar while we could have nids who are bringing completely different style ..
its about the gameplay, should we have IG as a first race, you will have regular guardsman as T0 and they will have to be:
super cheap and make them realistic and squishy
or
unrealistic (more jumping gabe rage) and make squad of 5 guradsmen equal to 5 space marines
or
make squad of 15 guardsmen
all these options will be much harder to balance than squad 5 necron warriors who would be in perfect balance with tac squad
also that second space marine has some red bitz on him so he might be different

IG is a faction not a race. Would rather them make an appearance later.

I think Admech would be a great alternative to IG. They could still be vehicle heavy with weak-ish infantry and they look so much more impressive. I'd love to see dune crawlers and iron striders in action.

Personally I wish for Relic to implement new races, even if this game was a fiasco, but I'm not sure if ever will be new races. Still I would apprecciate that.
Of course I would like every race/faction from WH40K be implemented but I have my own favorites, Tau and Tyranids and maybe even Adeptus Mechanicus, they too have a cool stuff especially from Horus Heresy. But to be honest, I don't mind playing all factions a RTS have, cause its my prefference.
But I admit, that low quantity of factions is maked up with quality of making them, thanks to mainly Elites and Faction Mechanics and to lesser extend, Doctrines. If ever would be a new Dow, I would like to have not only big scale but also the same or similar Elite system with faction mechanics for each race, cause I find it interesting. Heh I would like to new Dow to be a improved version of Dow3, meaning with large scale and epic Elite units with addition to maybe air units and with many races. Dreams of course, but I can live without that.
Of course I know that Dow3 wasn't well received but for me with more races that would be the most interesting of Dawn of Wars. And I think now, if Sega or any publisher wasn't too greedy on money and allowed this game to be released later at least with additional Annihilation mode, then the game could be received better and had more chance for expansion.
Right now I have to be happy with what this game have currently. And it is about to get soon this February.

tbhstill playing the soulstorm expansion and still love the difrend power struggles each race/ faction have and would love them all to reapear in dow3 i borgt dow 2 on a false premise of basebuilding and the reapering of all the difrence styles of gameplay but got a mediocra c&c 4 clone(that was the feeling i had playing it) and c&c 4 were bad thanks to ea streamlining ++heresy redacted++, anyhow i dont think the normal marines will come back cuz of the loss of the forge unless there will come a time rift instead of the warp rift thats another thing but i would love to have them back same for the rest and i think most of people here would love that to just make them as diverse as posible eks the waaaaarg perfeckt adaptation you could do the same for necros by them needing power to reraze their armies for a short period of time around the necros mage and them needing the constant power so you could defeat them wit destroying their power suply

More like IG is the race, and SM is the faction*
CANNED_F3TUS
Well collectivly speakin they are all factions of 1 race lol.

Maybe Relic should clear the air and tell us the plans for the future? Is it going to happen though... only time will tell unless there are some leaks?

We weren't given a lot of specifics. "February" for content, and "the new year" for communication. I got very excited when steam started downloading a patch yesterday, but it didn't coincide with any relic post here. I'd hope for one soon, though they may be happy to let us stew and build hype among ourselves. The files that were changed with the patch are easily found, and you can see some basic poring through the changed file archives in the other thread. Lot of interesting things about meta-maps and energy-based abilities.
Back on point to the thread, I'd be very very surprised if we saw every TT faction represented. Pure conjecture on my part, but I can't imagine a publisher would see the prolonged investment needed to make all of these races as being worthwhile, unless we see a significant reversal in player uptake and retention.

Ok guys what is this 700~ mb patch, it did not change any game balance or concepts yet am I right? Its just a stability test patch or something?

"Small but important update to some back-end systems".
It featured updates to the Art, UI, attribute and the main Data file, so people (myself included) are getting excited. You can see in the linked thread people doing some basic data mining, but it's not clear whether what they are posting was already in the game as legacy code - ie, remnants from unimplemented ideas - or if it is indeed recently added. So the patch could be setting a foundation for something big, but it could be nothing either.

Some people did some comparisons and much of it, such as the Campaign Map and Wargear Menus, was already there.

Is it possible to sell the franchise license to other Studios to develop new Expansions? Basically with news of Relic abandoning the game, maybe other Studios could pick up the license and make new content?
Stoner
To sell DLC and have actual playerbase for this game, gameplay needs giant and complete overhaul, since nobody will pick up project which caters to 1% of DOW series fanbase and 1% of potential "new audience". I don't think any studio will be able to sort this mess. This game has solid engine, good core which can be built around, and honestly speaking, small team of dedicated modders could make this game possibly one of the best RTS games ever created (if they had actual tools) without much effort, but actual studio (dev/publisher) will be looking at business side of things, which will eventually screw everything up again.

I still honestly think that some other studio or developers should get the license to use this game and its game engine to develop new content which is not impossible. Just change the license with Relic and Games Workshop. I did not really mind this game using the power core game mode, I thought it was something different from DOW 1 and DOW 2 and enjoyed it. Ok, Relic just do a transfer of license deal or something like that in the future, not everyone hates this game honestly.
Spirit
Sure its not impossible to build up on what dow3 offers. Its not a bad game just needs more races and some gameplay tweaks.
MrJade
To be honest, that isn't going to bring in more people than are currently playing. I detest the basic foundation of the game. No amount of reworking would recapture me or any of my friends.
Spirit
Maybe not you and your friends but you cant speak for everyone. Im playing dow since dow1 on a very high level on the highest possible level tbh same goes for dow2 i know many dow die hard fans and they just waited for a rework and a new race. I cant speak from you or your friends but im sure dow3 could have had a playerbase like coh2 or even bigger and also with added microtransactions and then its very profitable for the devs.
Kicking all dow fans into their asses is surely not a good idea.
MrJade
That's clearly not what Relic thought. This game sold atrociously, less than a 3rd of what the expansion for DoWII sold, and most fans hated it. Just look at the Metacritic for the game. It's a 44.
I get that you liked it, but no amount of "rework" would fix this MOBA-esque trash. Relic made a game that the vast majority of players never wanted, and that is an attestable fact since Relic already cancelled support for the game.
Spirit
I didnt like it im just a dow nerd ever since dow1. I just see that dow3 had great potential but relic thought its better to let it die only 9 months after its release without any proper try to make it rise.
If you think i like it so much then you can think that but i never said it. Still i had some great games with former dow1 and doe2 mates and also i met some really great people in dow3 and had some very good games with them in this unfinished and rushed game thats called "dawnofwar"
MrJade
They tried when they released the game, it just turns out the free market thought the game was crap and it failed. Why do you want Relic to pour money into a leaking pot in attempt to fix it?
